The IRS has lost one of my kids' Social Security Numbers every year since she has been born and every year our e-filing gets kicked back and every year, I get on the phone with the SSA and the IRS to straighten this out because God forbid they contact each other directly (they won't) and every year it happens again. So, I can see this happening.

We had one office in Maryland tell us that we didn't owe anything, and an office in Texas (iirc) would then send a letter demanding the money we didn't owe. It took several calls before my wife could get the Maryland people to tell the Texans to STFU.

I'm not sure that they could find their own asses, even if you gave them a map and a flashlight.

The programs the IRS uses for taxpayer info were created in the Johnson administration and while updated regularly is still a nightmare of command codes.  And the manual the people who help the 'customers' is so long that, if put into a book, would be about 5 feet long.

That said, I am a mite suspicious about this.

this isn't limited to government.  two departments not talking to each other is common everywhere.  When my school wants to beg me for money, they know where to send the letter and what number to call, but they fat finger my address on the student loan bill once and they send me to collections...

I know, but when the IRS really uses SSNs quite a bit, so, you might think they would have a way of sorting this sort of thing out instead of me telling them every. single. year. that they have on digit wrong in their stupid computer. It's not like I need something from the Bureau of Indian Affairs to send to the NOAA.

That's odd.  They should have a database they can query with that info.

And then we get to talk about how this is the first Black president (shh, Clinton was) and how its all about how much Republicans hate him. And then next week, some new scandal/CF will happen/occur.

Yeah, servers crash all the time and important emails are forever being lost. By the Government... Whose function hinges on accurate record keeping...  There's nothing to see here. I'll just quietly derp away now... derp.... derp........ .derp...........potato... derp.....

Due to a supposed computer crash, the agency only has Lerner emails to and from other IRS employees during this time frame.  The IRS claims it cannot produce emails written only to or from Lerner and outside agencies or groups, such as the White House, Treasury, Department of Justice, FEC, or Democrat offices.

That's not how email works.

I'm not saying this isn't suspicious (someone more tech savvy than me: is there an explanation of why inter-office e-mails would have survived but outside e-mails did not?), but I have a solution: subpoena the White House, Treasury, Department of Justice, and FEC for any e-mails from or to Lerner (I'm not sure what they mean by Democrat offices; the offices of politicians or we talking about EVERY Democrat could possibly have been involved in a shady e-mail trail.)

I know the White House (should have) tamped down on security after the US attorney scandals under Bush because presidential archives are required to be kept for public release (eventually). If she's communicating with these groups in should be in their archives too. It allows them to expand the investigation while leaving out the "we need every e-mail she's ever sent anyone" fishing expedition stuff.

The accusation was that the IRS was specifically and unfairly targeting right-wing groups. That was proven to be false fairly quickly. This is just another one of Issa's bullshiat witch hunts.

FTFA:  lost Lois Lerner emails from a period of January 2009 - April 2011

The scandal in question was in 2013.  Just how far in advance do Conservatives think this horrible conspiracy was planned?

That aside, a computer crash losing years of emails from numerous employees should have produced metric-fark-tons of paperwork when it happened.  This shiat should be really easy to verify.

Due to privacy regulations, the place I work at diverts outside to/from email and wraps it behind a login and password, but I don't know enough about it to say for certain whether half that system could crash and leave the internal side up.

Really? With this administration?

TFA: "Just a short time ago, Commissioner Koskinen promised to produce all Lerner documents.  It appears now that was an empty promise."

It's not like they just asked for these emails and are finding out about this now. Oooops, sorry... The dog ate it.

Due to a supposed computer crash, the agency only has Lerner emails to and from other IRS employees during this time frame.

I was a mail admin for eons and I'm trying to think of a system that makes this plausible.  Older Exchange and Novell Groupwise systems kept internal mail in a centralized database and mail sent outside the system had to pass through a gateway, but copies of sent mail were still stored inside the mail database.  The only scenario that's popping into my head at the moment is that they lost her mail completely and they attempted to rebuild what they could from other mailboxes - mail sent to her or mail other people received from her.

It's plausible, but boy is it awfully convenient if true.

vpb: So, we've gone from articles by partisan "news" or "think tank" groups to articles from actual partisan politicians themselves.

CBS news has it covered.  That should be good enough for you.

The BOLO that contained the Tea Party language went out in March 2010; yes, January 2009 is ridiculous, but it was in effect for a year of the span they're asking for and obviously any discussion of making the BOLO would have been before that.

Of course we know there were already previous BOLOs on "progressive" and "liberal" groups so that's why they weren't added along with it, but the timeline they are expecting isn't completely unreasonable.

2014-06-13 07:37:17 PM
While this looks incriminating, you cannot discount incompetence.

Can any conservatives please tell me the exact scandal I should be worried about and why the deletion of e-mails is relevant?
