Benghazi is a distraction from the fact that the GOP Party hasn't done a God-damned thing to help this country. Their only raisôn de ętre is "Whatever 0bama is for I'm against it." The last time the Republicans had an idea that benefited this country was Eisenhower's Interstate Highway program.

Kevin72: The last time the Republicans had an idea that benefited this country was Eisenhower's Interstate Highway program.

Interestingly, Eisenhower was also the last time Republicans elected a president that wasn't a war criminal.

...

Edit: After 3 seconds of googling, turns out I was wrong.  Actually it seems to be Hoover, who as we all know was just a terrific president.

Eisenhower - 800,000 germans dead in DEF camps
Nixon - Cambodia
Reagan/Bush I - Iran Contra
Bush II - Take your pick

The shame of it all. If only Eisenhower had been nicer to the Nazis. Or something.

Oh for crying out loud. You are either a
1) Nazi sympathizer which I 99.99% doubt, or
2) Have no idea how badly Hitler screwed Germany in addition to everyone else. With millions of troops called back, infrastructure down, a government with all its attention on rounding up and murdering Jews, well yeah Germany is screwed, but shouldn't we be concerned with rebuilding America/finishing off the Japs? Eisenhower did not intend typhus and food shortage in those years nor can he be blamed for that.

Meh, it was the first thing that came up when I googled "eisenhower war crimes" and I spent 5 seconds skimming the wiki page.

I blame the American education system. My HS history teacher was a serious nationalist/proto-teabagger, so it's not like this is something I'd have ever learned about unless I specifically googled it.

/There might have been a college US history class in there somewhere, too, but most of my college classes were in the morning, and my brain is physically incapable of remembering anything that happens before 2 PM.

The 1953 coup of Iran happened on Eisenhower's watch. If it hadn't been for that, I'd probably put him in my top 10 US presidents.

Lol calm down.  This is fark, not a history journal.  Spending more than 2 minutes researching a fark post is a sign of extreme autism.

Anyway, the point I was going to make originally - that Eisenhower was the last elected Republican non-war-criminal - still stands.

The place where we disagree is the value of spending more than two minutes researching something for FARK. You just might learn a few points of view on a new topic .for your own intellect-building AND be able to contribute something more than re:re:re:re. That is not autism, and definitely not "extreme autism". You can blame your high school teacher all you want, but I see very clearly in your own words what you think of more than two minutes research.

The GOP's distraction tactic? Yeah, it's getting pretty old.

Try to talk to any GOP pol these days about anything and they'll use the distraction angle to try to interject their scandal du jour into the conversation replete with talking point language identical to every other GOP talking head out there.

Hell, I remember back when Clinton was going after Al Qaeda and Bin Laden and the GOP back then claiming that he was just trying to distract from the real scandal of Monicagate or BJghazi or wotever it was called.

Something old dogs something tricks.

I've never heard of SAVAK so read up on Wiki. Holy crap! It looks like Repubs were fine with Iran running this and it wasn't until Carter started talking about it that things got better. And apparently they never disbanded after the revolution; they just changed names and leadership, although many of the original agents were hunted down and killed.
