Facebook drama is self inflicted drama.

At this point, if you're still using Facebook you HAVE to know that you are a commodity and your information is being used to enrich the wealth of some rather villainous characters. I mean, Facebook can only be in the news so much for changing their privacy policies in the middle of the night before you just have to catch on.

By the way, I STRONGLY recommend watching the documentary "Terms and Conditions May Apply" about the erosion of online privacy and the marketing of all aspects of consumers' lives to advertisers.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2084953/

It's even on Netflix.

NoScript does all of that too but with more thorough options (from the article details, that is).  It's easier to shield yourself from fb (and google) when you arent a user.  if i was i might look into this but DIAF FACEBOOK!

fark them forever.

That's how I do it. I was never successful in just trying to delete the Facebook account. Finally ended up nuking a whole Google account just to get rid of it. Just as well, I guess, since Google went over to the dark side too.

I'm sure some of it is harmless, or as harmless as anything is nowadays, but I really hate that crap. Stop farking marketing to me!

As long as they don't look at " in private" browsing. That's some twisted shiat.

Quit showing me products I might actually be interested in.  It is tyranny.

Serve up whatever ads you want, AdBlock can handle it, I assure you.

That magically makes all the facebook buttons go away? They already know so much about you they could fill out your profile for you.

Facebook decided I was gay once and started showing me ads for gay cruises. Every other ad was for a gay cruise. Once I changed my preferences back it started showing the usual ads again. They also know where everyone that uses your browser has been. You might want to question whoever also uses your computer.

This will be hard, but maybe your wife might doing something behind your back. You go on facebook and forget to sign out. When she gets one the computer, all the facebook buttons think she is you. The facebook button on a hookup site thinks you went to the hookup site and triggers ads for hookup sites. She would likely be looking for men, so facebook thinks you are looking for men, triggering gay ads. She could be doing this all for a friend, but it is worth asking. Good luck.

Danger Mouse

Use F.B. Security, it can hide everything in the right hand column and what ever you want in the left. It will prevent you from getting videos or auto start if you wish. It has enough options to make facebook just the way you want it.

I have nothing in the right column and only seven items in the left.

So to stop Facebook from looking at my browsing history I'm supposed to go to a 3rd party website and disable AdBlocking and turn on cookies....sounds legit.

What's even better, looking at ghostery or disconnect, over a hundred sites try to connect. It's bullshiat. You want to have an opt-out? Use ONE COOKIE and force your "alliance" to look for it and use it.

I am curious about this. Has anyone here ever actually bought something from an ad, be it a pop-up or just a standard ad in a side column? I sure haven't.

See, this is what I mean. You are all being manipulated, and you don't even know it. Things that you actually WANT, you're perfectly capable of thinking them up on your own. The rest of it is bullshiat. People do themselves no favors by busting their asses to buy all this shiat that has been inserted into their minds by clever marketing, then waking up the next day to realize that they now need to buy more stuff to go with the stuff they bought the day before.

It's a goddamn addiction. Don't get me started. I can go on all day. And few people ever stop to question it, no even around here, where the collective IQ is pretty high.

My work computer gets some pretty silly ads from google, but also related to anything I've searched for. Or the previous (female) user searched for. I'm amused by it. I don't go to any of my personal accounts on it though, that's what my laptop and phone are for.

Sure. I bought a cool pair of gloves from a Fark advetiser once. Shortly thereafter Barry on Storage Wars is wearing them though. He's a cool cat, but I don't want to look like a copy cat to my friends...

I started getting ads for oncologists for a couple of days. That was sad.
