The floating one is pretty cool. Adds a bit more meaning to divegrass.

That's nice and all, but getting Jennifer Lawrence to hold up a Calculus textbook doesn't make the textbook any less boring, if you catch my drift.

/Side Note: To decide which famous hot chick to name in this comment, I used the FHM 'sexiest woman' list, I got down to #7 (Beyonce) before I found a person whose name I'd ever heard before in my life, and #19 (Emma Watson) before I found someone who I actually knew anything about at all (she was in Twilight or Harry Potter or something, right?)

Wow, a field near some mountains.

A couple of those were cool, but the ones near mountains were pretty meh. I've seen better lists of these somewhere else on the internet. Floating one was cool though.

/maybe that's just because I've lived near mountains a lot. They don't really seem special when literally everywhere you go has mountains in the background.

Why is it a pitch?  Nothing is being pitched there.

Cataholic: Why is it a pitch?  Nothing is being pitched there.

Googling suggests it comes via cricket, where the stumps are pitched (staked to the ground; as in pitching a tent) before play.

As such, the corner flags and goal posts are pitched.

But the etymology is not important; the field of play is called a pitch because that's what people call it.

List fails without it:
The stadium was carved from a quarry (Monte Castro) that overlooks the city of Braga. Stands run only along both sides of the pitch. Behind the goal at one end are the rock walls of the quarry and at the other is an open view over the city sprawling in the distance. Each stand is covered with a canopy-style roof, and both are connected to each other across the pitch by dozens of steel strings, a design inspired by ancient South American Inca bridges.
Once inside the stadium, moving from one stand to the other is done through a 5,000 sq.m plaza under the pitch.
