Should have been following the flowchart:

Though I didn't think of putting an option in here for "is the other driver firing a gun?"... maybe next time.

FTA: Babb said there are no known witnesses or suspects at this time.

FTA: She then observed a late 1990's model green Toyota Camry speed past her in the right lane. The vehicle then pulled in front of her. She then observed a gold Jaguar behind her in the right lane. She observed several muzzle flashes coming from the Jaguar, said Babb.

Great reporting. Would read again.

I always wondered about how the US wound up with left hand drive. You can't drive and shoot worth a damn, you need someone riding shotgun.

The right lane is the best place to be at 3 in the morning when the drunks are using the exit ramps as entrance ramps.  Because they know they've been drinking they're always good about staying to the right and they rarely need to pass someone when driving the wrong farking way.

One of the roads on my morning commute goes from bi-directional to one way as it gets towards downtown.  There's a neighborhood that exits into it shortly after it turns one way, and on average every couple weeks there's somebody who turns the wrong way onto it and starts driving against traffic.

It gave me a fair share of 'holy shiat' moments at first, but now that I know to anticipate it it's amusing to watch how the drivers who suddenly see themselves driving towards oncoming traffic react.

and other people speeding doesn't give you the right to kill people by riding in the left lane blocking them.
in many states (the sane one anyway), its actually the law; regardless of speed limits, slower traffic moves right. it saves lives, and riding the left lane here blocking speeders will get you pulled over much faster, and get a much larger fine, than speeding.
/as it should, as its much more dangerous

I didn't see it in the article, but I hope the cops wrote her up a ticket.  Not only was she breaking the law by driving in the left lane, but it creates a very dangerous situation for people driving there correctly by executing an attempt to pass.

Up here (Alberta) it's legal to pass on the right - the only requirement is that you're using a real lane and not the shoulder. It's goddamn hilarious how many people think it's illegal and start to road rage at you while they're doing 5k over the posted limit in the left lane of a major highway.

fark that chart, I do 98% of my freeway driving in the city. When there's merging traffic on the right every mile or two, staying in the right lane is kind of dumb.

And during morning and afternoon drive times there's no such thing as a "passing lane".

georgia does. so so all sane states. only five states remain that -don't- have laws making it illegal to ride the left lane.
in fact, georgia has one of the harshest laws; NOT moving over for faster traffic is a not merely a simple moving violation, its a full-blown misdemeanor with up to one year in jail.

/ever since studies have shown traffic deaths linked more to left-lane bandits than to maximum speed, states have gotten on the ball to stop this idiotic behavior.

Dear, yippie ki yay, dipsh*t, asshat tough guys.

We're all moved in now.  We have electricity and plumbing and individually wrapped cheese.

We don't need any dope kingpins, dime store gangstahs, redneck buffoons, sh*tbag thugs or other ne'er do wells playing GTA on the highways.  They are full of people with jobs, lives, things to do and families and people who would miss them and as such, shouldn't have to put up with your wannabe cowboy shenanigans.  You have most of the world's accumulated knowledge at your fingertips, TeeVee shows, radio, several hobbies, food is laying around practically free and if you take your head out of your ass, maybe you'll meet a nice gal to hang out with before you accidentally install a zipper in her chest with your badass semi-automatic dick extension.

Stop sh*tting where other people eat.  Thanks.

Here in Utah it does...

Kinda. Around here, if you are in the left lane and someone comes up behind you, you have to get over ASAP, regardless of how fast you're going. Doing 85 in a 65 and a car comes up behind you doing at least 100? You can get a ticket if you don't move. And it's up to the cop who he wants to pull over. He could let the other person skate with reckless driving if he decided to bag you instead...

Crazy...

I think the lady's story is bullshiat though, she embellished one detail a little too well... I don't think a Toyota Camry has sped past ANYTHING, let alone another car.

Gold Jaguar? That leaves only two choices.

James Bond villain or drug dealer.

Occams razor says drug dealer.

Maybe the gold Jag was driving around without lights on and the green Camry flashed their lights at the Jag and unknowingly became the gold Jags initiation murder to get into a gang.

well, since the article is from georgia, i'll start with georgia. where it just got elevated from a moving violation to a full-blown misdemeanor for -not- moving over.
if you want to complete that list, there are at least 44-45 more states with similar laws; you move over. REGARDLESS of speed limit.

The reason so many states started changing laws dealing with left lane passing does have directly to do with traffic fatalities. Absolute traffic speed was far less of a factor than the overall delta of speed when looking into traffic accidents and deaths. in other words, a highway with traffic doing random speeds of anywhere between 50 and 75 had far more deaths than one where everyone was driving, say 85 mph.
Differing speeds and passing in all lanes kills. Overall high average speeds don't, if traffic flow (and as a second order effect following distance), is maintained.
/in other words, you want to hang in the left lane 'enforcing' some speed limit, you are more dangerous than any speeder. you aren't 'helping' the cops, and around here they will arrest you if you do it.
