TheManofPA: And Duncan just breaks the record for most Double Doubles in Playoff history with no fanfare what so ever

He's not Le Bron Ain6t nobody got time to notice

I know it's not the only factor, but I can only imagine what the Heat could do if they had a coach that could, you know, coach.

Hyjamon: TheManofPA: I have to say, the crowd has hung in there far better than last night's. The boos were bad, but last night was closer and more people were leaving at this point. We'll see what happens next TV timeout

I started to see a lot of folks standing up at the cut aways to the commercial, it will be a ghost land in no time now

Oddly it seemed to clear out in the center and the side where the Heat are shooting, but the Heat fans watching the Spurs hoop stayed

What's the longest possession streak where the Spurs haven't scored? 3?

In fairness, double-doubles are stupid stats that are really only even sort of significant for centers and maybe PFs.

[quizzical_dog.jpg]

what stats are significant than?  we have eliminated steals and double-doubles so far

Palmer Eldritch: PowerSlacker: Also, can we talk about Duncan as one of the five greatest players ever now?

Jordan, Russell, Abdul-Jabbar, Bird, Magic, Chamberlain. Who's he better than? I have him #7.

I think I might put Timmah ahead of Bird and Magic. A 5th title would tie him with Magic, and while it's tough to compare players across positions....he's got 7k points on Magic. I think Bird and Magic's legacies benefit from their rivalry a little more than they should.

I like the random white dude sitting between Lebron and Wade.

Heat could have won game 1 (if no cramps) but wild to think on the other idea, that if Parker doesn't struggle post-elbow, the Spurs could have swept a very very good Heat team.

I don't think it's over as you get a poorly officiated game or if James decides not to pass the whole first half, Heat could take game 5 (and then go right home for game 6) but interesting turn of events.

Points and rebounds are significant, but double-double is a stupid stat. 10 and 10 gets you a double-double. 33, 9, and 7 doesn't.

It's something that has "significance" because of a base-10 system.

Why would you stay to watch your team get killed? And don't give me that "chance of coming back" crap since you've watched the last two games.

Because good fans stay til the end no matter what.

At this point, you are better off waiting until the end of the game. There will be less traffic that way

I am truly surprised by this.  I thought after Miami stole home court advantage, it was over for the Spurs as they couldn't win a single away game against OKC.  They could still piss it away, but it seems unlikely.

Lebron is never gonna live that carried off the court shiat down and hopefully this will end the Lebron v. Jordan debate once and for all.

or non-lebron players that could, you know, actually play good basketball.  lebron is probably starting to think; "damn, if i only had the 2006-07 cleveland cavs to support me this would be so much easier"

2014-06-12 11:38:46 PM
Also, it seems unfair to knock Spo for this. Pop has a fully loaded AR-15 and u n limited ammo. Spo has a few grenades, if those don't hit he's f*cked.

wow.  that back to back loss for the first time must hurt.  especially at home.   Well, "we" can hope for three straight wins.   Wait that is the Spurs in five.

I honestly think the Spurs could play Aron Baynes 20+ minutes and win.

Magic and Bird's careers are shorter. Not sure if that helps or hurts their cause. They also each have one more MVP award, which is a big deal.
Duncan was always a winner more than he was ever the obvious choice for "best player on the planet."
/ Even in his MVP years, it's a tough argument to say he was the best player in the league. And, for the last 5 years, you probably have to argue to put him in the top 10.
// That's probably a function of playing time, but still.

All 13 players scoring. That's wild.

GREG ODEN time!

Aww, Heat got within 20. I would have sworn they were winning tonight and really only time Joey was in play was a weak Tech on Birdman

15 and 10 is actually pretty shiatty if you're playing 40 minutes a night with below average shooting percentage and rebound rate. Getting the double double is more or less a consolation prize for showing up and having a pulse at that point. Per games are less important that per 36s (which normalize production albeit with a bent towards players with less playing time). Efficiency stats are also quite good (assist/turnover ratio being one example).

that's not true.  there are much better things to do instead of making yourself miserable watching a team get kicked in the nuts.  if it's 20+ point with 3 minutes you can leave.  actually you probably should.

and what's the point of being a good fan when the team doesn't give a fark about you other than how to separate you from your money?

That's just sad that the Heat fans vacated so early.

Interested to see James' presser to see if he was hurting in the first half (someone will ask about the bathroom break) and his thoughts on the third. See if you can get a feel for what he'll do in game 5.

Always fun to see Pop behind a mic too

I'm going to go out on a limb and say he probably wasn't giving his secret key lime pie recipe. At least he is smart enough to cover it up as best he can.

As for the leaving early...Miami fans are fickle.  It is Miami and there are better things to do after all.  Even when the Hurricanes are competing for national titles in football, their stadium is often half empty.

2014-06-12 11:45:23 PM
Pop is going to be pissed post-game, they caught him being polite and kind like 5 times tonight. This could cost the Spurs the series.

Being "a good fan" is all about making others feel good about you with zero consideration for how much it makes things worse for you.

Basically, it's for suckers.
