"I thought the puppies were maybe dirty somehow and I tried to clean them, but the colour wouldn't come off and then I realised it was the colour of their fur."

See, that's the problem right there.  Spell "color" correctly and they'll turn to a normal appearance.

I'm guessing the doggie version of the genetic anomaly that resulted in the Blue People of Kentucky.

Despite their superhero nicknames the adorable puppies are actually much smaller and weaker then the rest of the litter and one of them, a female,  dyed shortly after being born.

""There are no other recorded cases of this happening in Spanish scientific literature."

Then in the same farking article

"In 2012 a green Labrador puppy was born in England that lost its green hue after ten days. The cause for the colouring at that time was given as exposure to a substance called biliverdin, which can be found in the placenta."

A google search for 'biliverdin' shows that there's a shiatload of articles and this isn't that rare of an event.

End result, shiatty article, shiatty research, shiatty spanish scientific literature.

I love when they have these "you won't believe the way these cute animals were born" 'lighthearted' articles that usually has the last paragraph that says "It's not expected to live out the week".

Yeah, when I was a kid, our cat had kittens that were oddly colored. I would bet they'd show up(a much fainter) green under the right light. I never quite figured out what color to call them, sometimes they looked white, sometimes yellow, and now that I look at those pups, I wonder if it was a very slight green...

That's exactly what I think it means ... but the very next sentence is talking about how the guy is going to carry out a bunch of tests to find out what it is.

Meanwhile, I found a cromulent answer on the internet in under a minute.

So basically, the doc, and the person who wrote the article, didn't even bother to do a google search for 'green puppy' to see that this happens quite a bit.

Same thing happened when I was a kid.  It was just one kitten out of a litter. A dark colored kitten with the oddest, sickly poo greeny sort of cast to its fur.  It passed away during the night.  Never thought to alert the media.

It's called meconium staining and isn't rare at all.

I once had a colt born on the ranch that was bright pink with day-glow orange mane and eyelashes.   Faded to a dingy buckskin with a blonde mane after about a month.
