If the kid had a sub 4.6 40 time he'd already have a full ride at Bama

Holy crap, they haven't turned her off yet?

2014-06-12 12:56:16 PM
So pretty much a typical eighth grader.

Old_Chief_Scott: Holy crap, they haven't turned her off yet?

They have to wait until the end of this month to pull the plug, or they can't claim a deduction for her on their 2014 taxes.
IRS rules. There's nothing else to be done.

Brain-dead US teen

But you repeat yourself...

2014-06-12 02:52:35 PM
it's more symbolic than anything since she clearly won't be able to handle the typical workload of a ninth-grader.

2014-06-12 02:52:56 PM
The uncle of Jahi McMath, 13, told local media the school had decided to give her a diploma later this month.

Wow, her uncle is really young.

2014-06-12 02:54:34 PM
I submitted this with a better headline.

/no, really, I did
//and this kid is getting an 8th grade diploma, *not* a high school one

Still more accurate to call her an eighth grade graduate than it is to call Maya Angelou a doctor.

To be fair, at this point they share the same level of intelligence.

Asked if she felt proud of achieving this despite her limitations, jahi declined to comment.

I thought she was failing most of the tests they are giving her now.

How do you complete "most of" 8th grade by December?

"Jahi went into cardiac arrest after tonsil surgery last December"
"She deserves to receive the graduation certificate as she has completed most of the eighth grade work."

Um... I think we have different ideas about what constitutes "most".  Personally, I would say "significantly more than half" rather than "almost half".

Eh, just give them the diploma. Maybe they'll stop using the poor kid as a roleplay prop and give her a funeral.

Grading periods, conferences, meetings, planning periods, and test prep don't count towards education so yeah, they probably have the year covered.

two days off for thanksgiving, and school is basically closed half of december.

Whoo-hoo-hoo, look who knows so much. It just so happens that your 8th grader here is only MOSTLY dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do.

After reading some of these replies... I think I'm done with Fark. Too many a-holes. There is nothing funny about the headline or any of these posts.

This is a child that essentially lost life unexpectedly. That is never funny. I have three children ranging in age from 3 to 11. I cannot imagine seeing one of them breathing and knowing their is heart beating and then trying to accept that there is no brain activity. That would be absolute torture. I understand the concept, but it's heart wrenching. Everyone who made a joke about this is a shallow jerk. I'm just glad I don't know any of you personally.

translation for you: "If that particular child was able to run the distance of 40 yards in less than 4.6 seconds, then a full athletic scholarship to the University of Alabama would have already been secured."

It's because he was a jock.

I have macabre visions of them wheeling her body across a stage attached to a machine that goes "ping!", mom picking her hand up to wave to the crowd, then wheeling her out the back door.

I don't see the problem here. I mean, the Nazis gave Anne Frank a diploma, and she was def, dumb, and blind.

It's easy if you started the 8th grade in September two years earlier.

At which precise age do people become unimportant and OK to joke about?

No one is making fun of the event itself, that she lost her life is tragic, but they are making fun of is the illogical things being done in her name atm.
