Buttes are pretty nice, but not nearly as awe-inspiring as Grand Tetons.

Elephant Butte, ha. That dinosaur bone probably was under 100 feet of water just a few years ago. That lake is just sad reminder of how nice it was to have a big lake in the desert.

raced jet boats there in the 70s on leave.
turn your head sideways at 100 mph and lose your shades.
the wind would rip them off your face.
Bed of that lake must be littered with them and  a million beer bottles.

Yeah, this kind of thing was funnier before I moved out west and got used to hearing the correct pronunciation all the time.

And while we're on the topic: ugh, fur balls.

People are still doing the bachelor party thing, huh?

Huh.

Read that as Tonsil Discovery.

I live just up I-25 from there, a nice find. coworkers have told me they don't like going there, saying it's full of chemicals. Went there once, with a friend showing me the new BMW he bought when his divorce was finalized. Not a real happy place, a reservoir, essentially in the middle of nowhere. As I recall, the wind was pretty bad, and snow was blowing all over the road.
I was thinking, what kind of a bachelor party takes place at a run down lake? 2nd, 3rd, shotgun? I know it's all we have, but still.

Hoe-Lee crap.
Must have been a hell of a straw.

So, was it named "Elephant Butte" because of previous mastodon-ish finds there?

Why would anyone need an excuse to have a good time?

I guess it is just a social norm that people feel they do. See holidays, birthdays, etc.
