He shouldn't have even told his friend.

Something like that, you gotta keep it in the family.

The raids found 38 adults and children living in filthy caravans and tin sheds without electricity, town water or any plumbing. They were the result of four generations from grandparents who were brother and sister.

Whoa. Something tells me incest may be the best thing about this "family".

FTFA: The court was told that the sister, given the pseudonym Tammy Colt, 29, gave birth to her baby Sally, who died within two months from a fatal genetic disorder known as Zellweger Syndrome. Sally was born "extremely dysmorphic" with the thick short neck and lowset ears typical of the syndrome.

First, I think that's a bit harsh on poor Renee.  Second, it sounds to me like this problem would have just sorted itself out in one more generation.

It took four generations of inbreeding before someone finally realized that there was something unusual going on here? Kids are dying of bizarre genetic diseases and no one thought to maybe look into their parentage? Jeez, Australia.

Even George RR Martin thinks this is a lot of incest.

Based on their lifestyle, I would bet if they do any looking around the ares these people live they might find the bones of previous children who died from genetic diseases.

This is seriously right out of the 'Home' episode of X Files.

From previous articles, the family was isolated in the middle of nowhere and kept to themselves. I'm actually surprised that at least one of them was in school - it sounded like they were all "home schooled" (ha).

Well we can at least tell from this that they were white. No dark skinned family would ever go that long without Australia getting in their business.

Incest CSB time
I was covering a case for my colleague where all I had to do was sit there and keep my mouth shut and the case would be closed. While the hearing is happening, I noticed something about the words that were being used by the magistrate, the social worker, and the other attorney. They never actually addressed paternity of the child in the way they usually do. The hearing ends and the child is returned to mom and grandma, grandpa, mom and their attorney leave the courtroom so I ask the magistrate what was going on and why everyone was acting so weird. It turned out that the child we removed was the product of the brother and sister and that kind of behavior had been going on in that family for years as they had quite a history with the CPS agency because of it. I now ask that colleague if there's an incest baby every time I have to cover a case for her.

Whoa. Something tells me incest may be the best thing about this "family".

Humans are supposed to have an in-built aversion to having sexual relations with any siblings you grow up with. It's nature's way of preventing this sort of inbreeding in humans. Evidently grandma and grandpa had a gene that overrode that, which they then passed down to everyone else, so now the family tree looks like a wreath.

I had to read that headline 3 times just to be sure I wasn't reading it wrong... Then after I read the article (yes, I know, this is Fark, who does that?), I have to conclude one thing:

That article was just fine without photos...

No matter how many cold showers you take that secret desire will still lurk in the back of your mind every time you look at a family member from now on...
