Obamacare paid for my massive heart attack and subsequent complete organ failure a few months ago, because I couldn't, on account of them costing more than my house and my previous house combined, plus throw in my car.

Thanks, Obama.

I keep daydreaming that I have a non-cancerous tumor that size in my gut, and that any day now it will be discovered and removed.  It's easier to fantasize than to exercise.

GreatGlavinsGhost: Thanks, Obama.
/no, seriously, thank you

This is one of the few things in the bill that actually worked, but let's correct a little revisionist history here.

Obama actually had very little to do with the healthcare reform he was championing and damn near lost it.  He threw the damn thing at a lame-duck conservative Senator who shut liberal Democrats out of the process in favor of Republicans, left the more liberal (at the time) House -- which was actually passing bills like single-payer -- out to dry, did absolutely nothing to stop the "conservative" Democrats from mucking up the process and wasted so much time wining-and-dining the Maine kunts (who are notorious for paying lip service to liberalism to appeal to their voters but are on record as Bush whores) that they were all but conditioned to drag the process out as much as possible.  By the time the damn thing passed every single proposed liberal reform was killed and the thing was being openly booed by liberals.  There's a reason why Obama's approval rating plunged something like 20-30 points following HCR.  He threw the people who got him elected under the bus and called it victory.

It's the Republicans who started calling it "Obamacare", but the Republican hate crusade is founded in nothing more than partisanship.  They basically got exactly what they proposed themselves in years prior -- legally mandated purchase of health insurance, absolutely no reform for the out-of-control hospitals -- so the efforts to get it repealed are really them pulling a fast one on their own constituents.

I'd say that is a false equivalence. Equating a car with someone's life. Remember what you are entitled to? "Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness"; "life" is first. You are entitled to life, but not a car. I really have no problem with someone getting "free" life saving treatment, but fix your own car.  The two things are completely different.

In other news, there are a lot more regular self-employed people like me that now can't afford insurance that is worse than what I had before and 5 times as expensive (not joking). Seriously, my health insurance costs almost as much as my mortgage now. I can't get credit/assistance from the government to pay for it because I often don't make enough money (again, not joking; I don't make enough to get help). My state didn't expand medicaid and I'm not eligible for any of the hardship exemptions. Obamacare truly farked me.

The reason it's called "insurance" is because you're supposed to get it before something goes wrong.

I sure wish I could start paying for car insurance after I have an accident.

Yeah, but it's also supposed to be there when you need it.  The one thing "Obamacare" did get right was make it harder for insurance companies to dump longtime customers off coverage the moment they got sick.  Considering they did that for decades and got away with it, I'd say we've just come full circle.

Every disease exists to try to guide us back to a free economy.  It targets and attacks the lackadaisical, the crum bums, the moochers.  Obamacare wishes to undermine the entrepreneurial darwinism, slay its philosophical foes, and have the survivors preach the gospel under the guise of feel-good compassion.  All this medical treatment is leading to society's stagnation.  We'll never make the leap to the next revolution when we're saddled with coddling the lingering deficients, genetic dead ends, and addled geriatrics.

I'm getting some eye surgery later this month that I had to put off for literally my whole adult life due to not having adequate or no insurance and it being horribly expensive and I only have to meet my very low deductible. I've also lost 25 lbs in three months due to a hormone imbalance being corrected (yeah, I'm actually one of the rare overweight Farkers that have hormone issues). I know exactly what this woman feels like.

Here's me, working 12 hour days and sometimes weekends, thankful that I still have a job, to properly support my family and our lifestyle. Here's me wondering if our insurance will be dropped because it doesn't include maternity leave and other stuff that at age 50 the obama facists tell me I need. Here's me wondering if we'll be able to keep our family doctor, like barry promised, after obamacare ruins my company's health plan in 2015. Here's me wondering if that woman could've gotten health coverage another way without the total dismantling of Americas health system just so the federal govt could get even bigger and more bloated with govt workers. Here's me waiting for November so I can cast my vote against every democrat on the ballot because every democrat, no matter what they say now, supported this obamacare folly.

You see?  Thanks to 0bama, nobody will be deterred from growing 47 pound sarcomas any time they want, because they assume Big Government will just take care of it.

It wouldn't surprise me if some people purposely continue to have sarcomas over and over, just to get the extra "free" benefits, paid for by taxing productive citizens.

RIP, America.

Would you be in the same situation if the state had expanded medicare? Would you be able to get better insurance if you moved to a state with expanded medicare? Because it seems to me that the problem lies with your state, not Obamacare.

Every single country on the planet with some level of government involvement in universal health coverage spends less of their GDP on health care than the US. Most of them even spend fewer tax dollars per capita.

Animatronik: everybody demonized insurance for controlling costs

That's because their idea of controlling costs was to collect as many premiums as possible and then deny coverage as often as possible.  That's controlling costs, sure -- theirs -- but that's pretty much the exact opposite of what insurance is supposed to do.  That's really more like a reverse shakedown -- pay us and we might be there if something bad happens.  Building up statewide monopolies and getting a Congressional exemption didn't help matters.  If you were sick and BCBS decided not to cover you for (reasons), they were the only game in town.
When it came to actual cost controls, they were absolutely terrible, and the situation hasn't changed.  When hospitals were charging $10 for a cotton swab or $45 for a bandage, they blindly negotiated percentage cuts to the rates based on how many patients they could deliver and passed the rest onto their customers instead of asking the most basic questions about how much it actually cost to treat a patient.
So it wasn't a matter of, "How can we get this patient the necessary care for as little as possible," it was, "Pay up now, and if you get sick we'll see how much money the hospital wants and decide if we're gonna help."  Great for the hospital, great for the insurance company, horrible for the patient.  It's hardly surprising the insurance companies got the brunt of the public's wrath.

Thing is, all we've really done is stop some of the most egregious practices but the economic dead weight due to healthcare corruption is getting unsustainable.  It's pretty difficult to maintain a first-world economy when a tangible percentage of GDP is getting sucked away by private sector corruption.
