According to this, one of those ingredients that the "Food Babe" thought was "safe" or "natural" in beer is a chemical (CAS# 7732-18-5) that is actually a major component of automotive antifreeze!

We should ban it immediately!!

It's like 95% of the stuff! That's why I stick to high proof whiskeys, where that particular contaminant is at more tolerable levels.

I don't mind the chemicals, as long as it's GMO-free.

It's beer, ferchrissake. Why is she shiatting in his beer? I mean that idiomatically and literally? I bet her husband is the laughing stock at work because of her.

It's not babyfood, or hamburgers from a chain, or soft drinks...It's one of the most optional forms of sustenance one can ingest. It's not like people are going to be consuming this accidentally or it will be in the hands of children. I don't know why she cares about these 2 companies in the first place.

Also...

IgG4: The Germans figured this out like 500 years ago...

While the Germans can make some very good beer, the Belgians do it better, in no small part because they allow themselves to play around a bit more.  Then again, the best beer being brewed might be in the USA right now with the craft beer revolution in full swing.

While I think the lady in the article is a bit nuts, I do believe that there should be mandatory labeling requirements for alcohol.  Even if it doesn't come to a full list of ingredients, there should be nutritional information (calories, carbs, sugar, etc) and ABV% on everything.

Mother of god.

You don't want weird chemicals, Isinglas and "tetrahops" in your beer? Don't drink commercial beer. Only drink homebrewed artisinal certified-organic beers with 110% pure artesian water, hand-raised hops and barley filtered through purest diamond pumice to keep your precious bodily fluids untainted by chemicals.

Otherwise, get a problem, "Food Babe."

2014-06-12 12:59:26 AM
if she's that concerned, she can make her own. there are ways.

also, i'm sure you can take some beer to a university to have it analysed, and some students would be really happy to do that. and then drink some afterwards.

and beer can cause obesity? oh, my stars!

A friend had a militant vegan visiting, who actually called the brewery to ask if they use Isinglass (a very frequently used ingredient) to clarify their beer, and didn't drink any because the person who answered the phone didn't know.

This woman again?

It's amazing that she seems to think eating and pushing her idiot diet is going to allow her to live forever and never get any of the things she is terrified of. Maybe I'm an evil bastard but if she got any of the diseases or ailments that she is terrified of tomorrow, I'd throw a party and laugh. I remember the last article about her that made it on to Fark people took her to task a lot more severely then they have been doing so far on this post.

Heh.  It's mostly the smaller breweries that use fish bladders (called isinglass, as mentioned above -- it was named after Saruman) as a clarifying agent.  Guinness is pretty big and they use it too.  By the time the big American commercial beers are cold-crashed and lagered and filtered they don't need it.

I really have no problem with requesting ingredients lists from companies that make things you eat or drink. I mean, I know you drunken morans have to defend beer and this broad needs to be mocked for her chemical-phobia, but you wouldn't argue in favor of any other food or drink being sold without an ingredients list, would you? I was by far in the minority when the pink slime scandal hit, when everyone was absurdly upset over something companies did that wasn't even hidden from anyone: FDA definitions and requirements are public knowledge.  But you ask for whats in a beer and everyone goes ape-shiat? JFC.

I will continue to drink cold cheap beer all summer long regardless of whether they release any info. I will also continue to drink mid-level beers, and craft beers, and maybe some wine, and probably some liquor.

baconbeard:Beer is reasonably nutritious, provided you don't consume it in excess.
Statements like these are farking retarded.
Some things ARE better for you than others. The things that are far enough down on the list  shouldprobably be avoided by people who place their health first.  Saying everything is 'a part of this complete breakfast' is farking stupid. Frankly it is worse than being worried about what chemicals and insect/fish bits may have been used in the making of a given product.

Assume someone is an idiot based on gender -> Your also an idiot.
Assume someone can't be an idiot based on their gender -> Your also an idiot.

Everyone else knows idiots are everywhere, and respect no gender divides.
