What would George Jones do?

And to think, I made a joke about Morrissey cancelling concerts in the vegan blog thread and within hours, he pulled the plug on a bunch of dates.

What, a Morrissey concert?

2014-06-11 03:21:47 PM
Wow, that's a lot of concert dates.  So what's his problem?  Drugs, mental illness, laziness...?

Poor diet.

Last name: Morrissey

This interesting surname has two distinct possible sources. Firstly, the surname may be of Irish origin, and is an Anglicized form of the Gaelic "O'Muirgheasa", descendant of "Muirgheasa", a personal name apparently derived from the elements "muir", which means to quit or leave, and "geas", which means a performance or display, and are a branch of the "Ui Fiachra", having their territory at the southern side of Sligo Bay. According to MacLysaght, this surname is also derived from the Norman name de Marisco, which is a slang term for carnivore.

Yes.  A petition makes so much sense as compared to NOT BUYING TICKETS.

The more petitions you sign, the closer he gets. He's made up his mind.

Heaven knows he's miserable now.

I bought a ticket to see Morrissey in 1995. He cancelled.

He came back a few years later and I bought another ticket. He cancelled again.

I'm too old to buy tickets to see Morrissey these days.

If people are afraid he won't show up, then don't buy a ticket.  If he has that much disrespect for his fans, then he should suffer the consequences.

Who?

2014-06-11 06:23:55 PM
Wait...now how is his cancelling shows "mistreatment"?

His problem is starting the set with "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard 'This One Before".

I'm assuming there are refunds involved. Otherwise, Morrisey would have been indicted on fraud charges long ago, although many folks had insisted he's been a fraud for years and OW OW WHO THREW THAT BOTTLE AT ME?

People should stop him when he does that.

Maybe he's just getting stale. If only there were some sort of container that would keep him fresh.

No, all we know is that he has pissed off between 15,000 and 1.5 million people.

He's rumored to have an autoimmune disorder that causes him to be frequently ill.  But that is just conjecture and internet gossip.

Didn't he hang himself whilst jerking off?

Ok.  I'm going to alone with this, but Morrissey has put on the best shows I have ever seen.  I last saw him in Burlington VT and he destroyed.  So he cancels shows once in a while...big deal.  When he plays it's magical.

Best singer, performer and songwriter of the past 100 years.  Bar none.

Then there's still the question of whether he'll play for more than a half hour even if no one does anything to upset his delicate sensibilities. Spoiler alert: he won't.

on a regular enough basis that it's become a joke among fans and haters alike.

Seriously, screw the guy. Unprofessional.

Heh. Have a friend who used to mime sticking a shotgun in his mouth every time Portishead's "Nobody Loves Me" came on the radio.

Ironically he was also a huge Smiths fan.

Time to put him back in his Tupperware.

You're going a bit far there friend, but he put on a helluva show on his birthday in Dallas about a month ago. He had Barrett's esophogus last year and cancelled, but that's ok, I saw him this year.

Saw Johnny Marr.

No need to see Morrisey because I already saw the genius behind the Smiths and not the karaoke version.

Was the real reason he cancelled he found a way to get his head even further up his own arse?

Serious question. Do some people find this guy entertaining? Talented? Or at least enough to overlook his obvious flaws?

If you actually believe that then you seriously need to broaden your horizons.

I am a fan, but I haven't ever seen him live.  I just watch old Smiths concerts online and save myself the money and the risk of cancellation.

He is a clever and witty songwriter, and I kinda like the yodeling.

2014-06-12 03:12:53 AM
I've probably seen him a half-dozen times since 1991. Always a good show.

Most recently, I saw him in LA last month. It was probably one of the most entertaining sets I've ever seen him put on. His new songs are terrible, but the "oldies" were well done.

He really does put alot into his shows. I can't imagine doing that, night after night, especially at his age. Not that it excuses the cancellations, but it makes sense.

Yes, but if someone didn't like his music in their teens/young adulthood they probably never will. Just my experience from knowing people that never heard of The Smiths before or only know him from his trolling.

And after a day of Internet announcements of getting fans to sign a White House Petition (really the White House)? I see it has almost a half a dozen signatures needed out of 100,000, so close Morrisey fans, so close!
