Lynn responded that he wouldn't agree with Gohmert's "construction of what hell is like or why one gets there." When Gohmert pressed him to say whether he believed people "would go to hell if they do not believe Jesus is the way," Lynn again answered that he thinks failing to ascribe to a certain set of Christian beliefs doesn't necessarily doom a person to hell.
"No, not a set of ideas," Gohmert insisted. "Either you believe as a Christian that Jesus is the way, the truth, or life, or you don't."

I feel so pissed of that a discussion like is going on in our legislature building!! It shouldn't the fark matter! It the US government for ALL people no matter who's religion.

This is a perfect example of the arrogance and ignorance of the GOP. They love to seriously debate experts in their fields about topics concerning their fields and claim that the experts are wrong, when they have not studied these fields at all and always fall back on God for their arguments. First it was they were debating and fighting economist on issues of economics, then it was scientist on issues of science in their fields, now they have come full circle and are debating theologians in issues of faith and falling back on God as the reason they are right and the person who studied it is wrong.

A missionary goes out into the bush and encounters a tribe that has had little contact with the outside world. He spends a day telling them about Jesus' life and death, and how anyone who believes in Jesus will not die but will instead have eternal life.

At the end of the day, the chief tells the missionary, "Thank you for sharing this with us, but I grieve for my father who died without hearing the good news."

The missionary says, "No, my friend, be assured that because he did not have a chance to know about Jesus, he would be saved."

So the chief says, "Then why the fark did you tell US?"

mrshowrules: Goehmert reminds me of a Jackson family joke by a Comedian (forget who) who said that Latoya was known as "the crazy one" and the question was how crazy would you have to be in the Jackson family to get that label.

I think the analogy with Goehmert and the Tea Party is obvious.

So Karl Rove would be Joe Jackson - the abusive father living out his dreams of power through his children
Sarah Palin would obviously be Janet - the daughter who for a moment got out from under her fathers thumb and became a superstar but without his controlling influence flamed out as it became apparent how crazy she was
Bill OReilly - would be Marlon the older brother frustrated that his younger brother has the spotlight
Sean Hannity would be Michael
Dubya - would be Tito obviously

Goehmert and people who think like him are the reason why Christianity has such a bad name.  However, this covers a lot of people who call themselves Christian.  But overall , most are morally wrong in their interpretation.  This is because they are total assholes about it and are cruel because of it.

Now I know they really meant this D-bag.

Don't think so small... Texas is a big state. Lots of villages.

They sent him to DC so he'd stop potatoing all over Texas.

// please stop doing this

Texans often forget that Texas is part of the United States, and therefore fail to realize that if they send their idiots to potato all over D.C. so that they don't potato back home, they'll still be potatoing by extension all over Texas.

/when did "potato" become a verb?

You say this like it makes a difference.  Here's a news flash.  It doesn't.  Crap like this gets lost in the daily blur of news and opinion.  Either you think the GOP is full of nutcases already or you don't.  Every retarded statement that comes out of this guy's mouth will not change that.

A large segment of the population will continue to support them no matter what he says.
