It's hard to tell. It has more bullet holes in it than a rural speed limit sign.

You need a bullet that leaves the barrel at about 14 km/sec to hit the moon. In a related note, I want a gun that shoots at 14,000 m/sec.

Kentucky law includes "death stars" in its definition of "deadly weapons", and a concealed deadly weapons permit allows carrying of any object considered a "deadly weapon" meaning that, if I so desired, I could legally conceal a fully armed and operational battle station with enough firepower to destroy an entire planet.

That guy in front of that gun is Gerald Bull, perhaps the greatest ballistics genius ever to live.  The Gun behind him is part of project HARP (high altitude research project) which was his attempt to design a gun that could send payloads into orbit, or even the moon.   He probably would have succeeded too, had not funding for his project been cut in favor of the space shuttle.   Sadly the experience left him bitter and without a job which led to hi taking a contract to build Saddam Hussien's "super gun" aka project Babylon  which would have allowed Saddam to hit targets as far away as Israel with several ton HE shells.  That, sadly, led to him taking two shots to the back of the head at point blank range with a silenced .22 while leaving a hotel in Amsterdam one day

Impey Barbicane was the fictional president of the Baltimore Gun Club in the Jules Verne novel "From the Earth to the Moon", which is what that silent film is based upon.

It's not simply idiomatic. It's actually something you can do with a sextant, but it's much trickier than shooting a fixed star, hence the idiom.

Sonofabiatch. It does include death stars. I'm guessing it means shuriken, but it doesn't look like it specify. Hmm. Maybe my plans for a galactic empire can come true.

That's the far right in a nutshell: They aren't interested in putting a man on the moon, they're only interested in howling at it, or in this case, shooting at it.

If today's Republicans existed during the space race, we would've given up after Apollo 1.

I imagine the irony of being done in with a gun with a muzzle velocity of less than 400 m/s was lost on him.
