And he wanted to be President. It seems every time I come to Fark I learn more about how Republicans are total dickbags and it just solidifies my views on them as a party. I will continue to not vote for them in the foreseeable future.

But goddamn. This really rustles my jimmies. It's like when the NRA pushed Congress to stop funding the CDC on guns and their correlation to suicides.

The ironic thing is, the same people pointing to these studies to show that smoking doesn't cause cancer or that global warming is a hoax also believe the scientific method is inherently corrupt.  If its corrupt, then why not spend your own money to produce the results you want?

Use of the obvious tag got filibustered, because there's "legitimate debate" on the "unsettled question" of whether or not it applies.

And this is why argument is absurd.

Facts exist to support claims;  you just need to find the right facts.

Depends, most academic literature requires that you denote funding and conflicts of interest related to findings. Mind you, corrupt people will try to hide things, but you do have more transparency in the academic vs. the "independent" realm.

Yes, those darn climatologists just want government grant money, which goes right into their pockets because that's how science works! The only TRUSTWORTHY scientists are the ones who are on the payroll of Exxon-Mobil.

/Bet you think cigarettes don't cause cancer, too. I mean, those scientists not working for  Philip Morris just wanted grant money!

That is the way ideally science would work for an individual scientist or team, but as suggested not really anyone can reliably be that objective (even if you try, hence double blind studies).

Luckily other groups of scientists aren't normally as invested in your paper being right as you are, so it is the steps after your diagram where science self corrects for human nature (to an extent, obviously as examples like the history of the oil drop experiment showed particularly famous scientists or breakthrough research can be given too much deference by other scientists meaning the flaws/inaccuracies tend to only correct more slowly).

Tell me, who funds more political causes. 'foundations' and think tanks? Soros or the evil Koch brothers?

Now tell me who 'funds more political causes' (read: buys politicians) that fark over American workers and the poor? Hint: IT's not Soros.
