a 280 foot strike. That was unreal.

I particularly liked how the catcher just sort of nonchalantly stood there and caught the ball like it had been tossed underhand from the ump or something.....

/wasn't really a "laser beam", more of a "hail mary", but still got-damned impressive

"Throw-enis Cespedes".

Yes, it wouldn't be a normal week in MLB without Yoenis Cespedes firing another laser beam rainbow to home plate

Great throw, but let's not call it a 'frozen rope' or 'laser beam'. Threw it at a great angle for his arm strength, but it's no Henry Rowengartner nailing the runner at plate from the bleachers.

1. Holy crap, what is it with the A's finally getting regular headlines?

2. That play wouldn't have been necessary if Cespedes had kept his eye on the ball in the first place.

3. The A's still lost. :(

/I shall call him "Mini-Puig"

Eventually the Angels will stop running on him. And the A's still lost. This will be, at best, a 5-4 road trip. A missed opportunity to put the Halos in a hole.

Nice throw but it wouldn't have been an issue if he hadn't bobbled the ball like a t-baller.

Hasn't he done it two times in an inning against the Angels, twice? They'd be fools to keep trying to run on him for right now.

I like to think of it as he was goading the runner into trying for home, only to dash his hopes and dreams at the last moment.

The Angels will do an adequate job of digging said hole by themselves.

I like how the comments section of ESPN brings out the DERP "ohhh I know this player can throw it better". Not an A's fan, but that is the best damn accurate throw i've seen in a while, most bounce a few times and the runner is safe by a mile.

Nice throw!

Wow, 300 ft in the air with pinpoint accuracy.  The nit pickers can say what they want, but in baseball vernacular that qualifies as a laser beam.

/frozen rope was more for hits IIRC
//still shoulda caught it

No, this (against the A's, ironically), is a laser beam.

Say what you want about "nit pickers," etc.....if the throw doesn't land in the catcher's mitt, the announcers would be spending the next 10 minutes talking about how he needs to hit the cut-off man.

Don't get me wrong, it was an awesome outcome (and I don't like the Angels), but nine times out of 10, the throw will be off-target.

I love the fact that Sciocsia had the play reviewed. My guess is even he wanted to admire it.

I still think Reddick is the better fielder and has a better arm, but it is a narrow gap.

Yoenis and Yangervis should be on the same team.

It's no Ichiro gunning Terrance Long.

Shame Us: It's no Ichiro gunning Terrance Long.

Ichiro has (had) a better arm, no doubt, but that throw was nowhere near as far and all of Ichiro's momentum was going toward his target at third.  Cespedes' throw is amazing since it's almost all arm.  And, yes, 95/100 times that throw last night will be off line or short (note that the third option of "over the catcher's head" isn't really one).

/was at the infamous Ichiro pegging Long at third game
//there was an audible gasp from the Oakland fans, it was pretty cool

Maybe they should pitch Cespedes when they need to bean somebody, instead of the tool that went 0/2 when trying to bean Machado

I wish his offensive play would more resemble his defensive prowess.

Cespedes has been a goddamn seismograph on the fantasy stat sheet this season.  That's all I got.

"Bean" implies thrown at the head. Unlike what Chen did (twice), Abad threw at Machado's lower body. Not a "bean" attempt.

UNAUTHORIZED FINGER:

"Bean" implies thrown at the head.

I think of Billy Beane
