Cantor's golem turned on him. And it is delicious.

Some interesting things about this is that (i) this is a relatively high turnout primary, higher than 2012 and (ii) Cantor seems to be paying the price for simply not hating immigration reform as much as other members of the GOP.

This is just going to make the GOP even more insane as people are going to get scared further to the right. My question is who the hell is the next Majority Leader? Are we going to get a real Tea Partier in House Leadership? Believe it or, House leadership during this horrible 4 years has mostly been able to keep the Tea Partiers in the back bench. What if they seize this opportunity to really become official House leadership?

Any chance the tea partier loses in the general? Did the Dems even bother to put someone up?

Also tonight, GOP Jewish caucus basically shattered. Or decimated ten times over.

I'm listening to his concession speech...I don't expect him to cry on stage, but he seems to be having to work pretty hard not to.

He is going to bawl his eyes out lying in bed tonight.

technically, yes.  Some tomato can that they nominated yesterday.

So he's been repealed and replaced.

2014-06-10 08:31:08 PM
Wow.  It couldn't happen to a nicer bag of dicks.

Dems need to scramble to prop up the sacrificial lamb they fattened up for Cantor to slaughter, as he does ever year here in Gerrymandria.

So... they just voted a Democrat in, right?

I think if the Tea Party ever actually took House leadership, we would actually default on the debt.

He was such an honest lover to the tea party.  He let them stick it in any hole they wanted for so many years.  They throw him away like it never met anything to them.  LOL.

Maddow is saying Virginia has a sore-loser law. Primary losers cannot run in the general. Cantor is gone and that is the end of it.

I'm hearing Maddow saying right now that VA has a "sore loser" law preventing a primary loser from appearing on the general ballot at all.  He gone.

I'm sure it's a punch in the gut that a guy who outspent his opponent 10-1 and thought he was up by 30 points lost.  But Cantor was a prick, so I'll live with it.

Hooooooooooooooly crap.

This might be the biggest political upset of the past 50 years.  Maybe 100 years.  Ever?  This is a 16 seed taking out a 1 seed.

The republican party has to be crapping themselves right now. If Cantor isn't safe, ain't nobody safe.

It might be. In 1994, the sitting Speaker of the House outright lost his election, but he lost it in a general election during a wave. So this might be a bigger upset.

According to this here website, the Democrats did not in fact endorse a candidate for this election. The opponents in the general will be a Libertarian and a Democrat running as a write-in.

Can't, illegal in that state.

Reposting from the other thread:

So apparently the actor who played Cooter on the Dukes of Hazard (I'm not making this up) is a Dem who lost his seat to Cantor back in 2002, and he urged the Dems to vote for Cantor's teabagger opponent because it's an OPEN PRIMARY. Might explain the high turnout. Hell, it might even explain the crazy internal poll that showed Cantor winning by 34 points if they were only counting registered Republican voters.
