The decline of the monarch does seem coincide with the decline of metal... You may be on to something there.

Ok.

I don't like this graph. This needs more years off to the left, because all I'm seeing is a definite downward trend for 1998-2014 but then 1994-1997 throws all of that off. This whole trend may not really exist.

Some groups, like Monarch Watch, have encouraged people to plant more milkweed in their gardens and on other public and private lands.

Let me explain: They have to beg and plead people to do this because NO ONE likes milkweed. No farmers I mean. It's a pain to deal with and it's hard to get rid of without spraying. Under normal conditions (no herbicides) it's impossible to get rid of.

Now back to the Dr Mrs tits.

One of my fondest childhood memories is raising monarch caterpillars to adult butterflies and setting them free.  I really hope they don't disappear.

I was fairly certain destruction of their winter habitat was the driving factor?

same reason bees are dying off...
GMO corn with BT kills the larva of moths, bees, butterflys, ants, but who cares?
the producers of the corn have known for years, but spend billions buying off scientists that have studies proving the BT is the reason...
yea science!!

One of my favorite things to do is go to Point Pelee in late summer when the Monarch Butterflies congregate there before crossing Lake Erie as they fly to Mexico for the winter.  There are millions of them everywhere.  It is cool sight.

Just as long as the Plasticus Mechanicus sub-type survives, I will be okay.

A long time ago, I was lucky enough to see a few hundred napping in the trees in my neighborhood.  That many Monarchs suddenly taking flight surprises you with the sound it makes.

It's the GMO Roundup Ready crops, farmers using Roundup and it being more effective at killing milkweed.  They can't get exposed to the BT pollen if there is no milkweed growing nearby because farmer killed the host plant.

Come to think of it, last time I was in Michigan during the summer, I noticed a lot less milkweed than when I was growing up.  I remember trying to take my kids out looking for monarch larva and coming up empty because there was no milkweed around, and it had been everywhere growing up.
