(Daily Freeman)   Time was, son, when the local Sunday school parade would go right past the local porno theatre and the local paper would cover it without blinking an eye. This must've been 1982 or so, going by the positioning of the belt-onions   (media.dailyfreeman.com) divider line 22

I suppose it's also fair to say that time was a town could have a Sunday School parade without anyone getting their panties in a bunch.

My hometown had a drive up porn theater that was clearly visible from the overpass of a pretty busy road. Eventually, they put up super bright lights to wash out the screen from the road because too many people were setting up lawn chairs in the emergency lane to watch the movies. (Plus really slow driving cars rubbernecking)

Thanks for the mental image of some guy jerking it in a lawn chair next to the highway.

Nobody thought of the children.

Or they did, and nobody cared, because every downtown had a crappy porno, quite often a legacy studio theater like this one is here, in the 70s and 80s until vhs put them out of business.

What if I told you, it's not about the children, but the parents?

I've been through Saugerties many times and I think the Orpheum is still around, but now it shows regular Hollywood movies.

I hope they mopped up real good before changing target clientele.

Thought, at least for the "older" students, it was to the theatre.Ah, remember the old days in Austin, late 70s before it became a largely commercial venue, there'd be numerous adult magazine stores, windows painted black, but the doors open to the public. The patrons would just blithely walk in/out. I was too young. If I remember correctly, it was 1979 or 1980. I moved there in 1978.

It's funny that there's a guy wearing a suit one tie on the cover of a porn flick.

/Joey Silvera, started in the porn biz in 1974, still directing porn in 2014

If you drive through this town with an out of state plate, you're chances of getting a ticket for something minuscule are incredibly high. They don't post that on all the promotional signs on the thruway though.
