This is the difference between having somebody who "takes awesome pictures" do your wedding and hiring an actual professional. I can figure out how to set up a shot like this, but to see the picture in your mind and get it right on short notice takes truly experienced hands.

Eww.

He is going to leave her a burning sensation after the deforestation?  So is the passion going to be given with a sharp object or a circular vibrating machine?  Does it matter?

Modern Family? So they acted awkwardly and constantly looked directly into the camera?

Subby is a liar...if this were a Modern Family episode come to life, it would involve increasingly un-funny and contrived plot-lines along with gay stereotypes in the guise of open-minded television programming...or something.

You make it sound like they set up the brush fire themselves and planned it all in advance.

I'm pretty sure it was more like:

Firefighters: Hey, you guys need to leave, there's a fire nearby and it could head this way.

Wedding party: Ok, I guess we better leave.

Party heads towards parking lot.

Photographer: Hey, that fire would make an awesome backdrop, you guys want to take a sec to pose for a pic?

Wedding couple: Hell yeah, let's do it.

Firefighters: Ok, but make it quick.

Pictures taken.

Firefighters: Good, now GTFO.

I've never seen an episode of that show, but it's getting increasingly more difficult to NOT watch. That show is on more than reruns of Law & Order lately. I'm assuming it recently passed the magic 100th episode, prompting syndication or something similar. Is the show any good?

what if stereotypes were the only thing other than fart jokes that were funny?

for example, mel brooks, airplane, and all comedy before the 80s.

/ would trading places really be all that funny if we were sensitive to stereotypes?
// the humor of a stereotype is not derived from the type cast, but the creator/perpetuator of the stereotype.

- i don't actually believe there is a clear formula to humor, whether stereotypical, scatological, etc.  i think the point is that there should be an underlying but surprisingly delivered truth, and it most be a little unusually created or otherwise unexpected to go from interesting comment to, that was farking hilarious.  and timing.

So, I agree that it's a cool photo, but optically it upsets me. I know the bride and groom are much closer than the trees, but that unfortunate scaling, along with the darkness/flatness of the shadows everywhere except the bridge and groom (who had a flash on them, obviously) makes it looks really weird and fake. Like a lazy Photoshop cut-and-paste. Not hating on it, just saying it looks weird.

// no, I couldn't have done any better. My photos rarely come out as cool as I think they will.

I agree actually. Photog probably used a really long zoom. I think I would have gone for about an 80mm, maybe even 50mm for the depth, and maybe at F/8 so the flame still has a fair bit of focus. Those long zooms make everything look flat.

Still a great shot.

/knows what can go into a great photograph, still can't shoot for shiat.

reminds me of the old cajun joke.

thibodaux is in court and slaps the guy from the other side.  the judge holds him in contempt and fines him $100.

thibodaux pays $500 and slaps the other guy 4 more times.

/ when a cajun tells the joke, it has a compelling story, interesting timing, word usage, and a punchline.  so, i'm not funny.
