Every time I hear about "attention to detail to the movies," it reminds me that it's licensed and it will only ever represent stuff that's ALREADY BEEN DONE. Maybe I'm wrong, and it will take a new direction but I get the feeling this is gonna be a lot like playing a prettier version of Battlefront 2, NTTAWWT. I loved Battlefront 2. I just hate licensed games with a passion since they limit you on exactly what can be done with your game

KOTOR was a good series because it took some liberty with Star Wars. I wish the new Battlefront game could do the same but it seems the major selling point is a new coat of stain on the same old curio cabinet. Basically, Battlefield: Star Wars. Lucas Arts (which doesn't exist anymore?) was usually pretty good about their world and their licensed games. So maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. They really made me mad after Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2. The original was fun and even challenging if played on the higher difficulties. I played the sequel and the plot was basically a derivative of the original with the same forced moral choice at the end with lots of very small, flashy areas with gimmicky fights and QTE events leading up to it. It was also shorter than the original with an entire set piece put up just to throw in Yoda for some damn reason. It was a serious black eye for my trust in that particular license.

I...well...huh.

I don't have the heart to tell him. Who else wants to try?

/take that breath and calmly exhale
//it's DICE
///the question isn't if they'll fark it up, it's how bad and how much will they make it worse trying to fix it

People still trust EA?

In-Engine and In-Game are two VERY different things.  Let us not forget what happened to Watchdogs recently.  Don't believe the hype, just wait for actual facts.

not in the least, and they won't get another red cent from me. Honestly I am done with EA forevermore.

Might shock you to learn that EA makes plenty of God games and not everyone has game-stopping bugs in their games.

But God of War was published by Sony

Joking aside, EA is known for taking successful franchises and completely ruining what made that franchise unique and fun so they can ram it through production with ridiculous tweaks. Will they happen to miss a game here and there? Sure. You just won't know unless you already shelled out your sixty bucks or had the sense to wait a couple weeks for the reviews.

simcity 5: simcity is probably the most interesting case study, as it's a failure on pretty much every level

And even then, it's a crap shoot.

Battlefield 3, for the first few months or so, was a perfectly awesome, quite playable game, give or take a few quibbles.

Then DICE started "fixing" stuff, and it promptly went to shiat. Here, have this Suppression mechanic nobody asked for that turns gunfights into luck and whomever has the best connection. Oh, it wasn't working to our liking, so we kicked it up to 11 and then dialed it back to 9. Here, let's take away 90% of all the good servers and rent them out to assholes who will kick you as soon as you pass them on the scoreboard. Oh, look, this attachment helps with aiming slightly, so let's make it so that whenever you use it, the spread (another stupid thing) increases to such a ridiculous degree...it goes on and on and on.

The moment I figured out Battlefield 4 was going to have all of that and then some, I deleted the demo (because that's exactly what it was) from my console and didn't look back.

I'm a little miffed about Hardline, because the cops vs. criminals route is what I've been wanting out of these games for some time, and EA has to be the guys to do it. I suppose the new Rainbow Six could fill that gap...but then again, UbiSoft's behind that one.

Fark.

Nailed it. And with the growing selection of smaller studios pumping out fun games for half the cost of a AAA title, EA shouldn't be the only ones worried about their future.

This, pretty much.
It's super easy (relatively speaking) to make something look pretty on a tricked out development computer. On a cheap $500 computer disguised as a console, not so farking easy.

Well said.  The Frostbite 3 engine is robust and DICE has had a fair amount of time to sort the bugs of BF4.  As a fan of the Battlefront series, I am looking forward to this release.  As a Battlefielder, I will be waiting for a few months and reading many reviews before making my purchase.

If anyone is stupid enough to buy an EA backed product you deserve all the aggravation that will come with a broken and unfinished game in the first 8 months of it's release.

BF4
BF3
SimCity
Everything EA ever touched.
