I never attacked them, only the article they shared, and they got so very, very upset about it


Well forget them, they were only "friends" it's not as if you came out of it at a loss.

Actually, the article is really saying that the problem is as much based on their behavior as it is based on your behavior. As in, if you participate in the forwarding or dissemination of this sort of stuff, you are just as culpable as them. But we all know that you have good reasons, of course, and when you submit the latest bit of Trutherism or Belieberocity or wacky Kardashian update, it's because of that, not this.
