That's great news!

TFA: Some of these small fish include delicious species like herring and sardines.

The article fails to mention that as well as nutritious and plentiful, you can also cut down the mightiest tree in the forest with them.

I agree. Sardines are small and fishlike.

Agreed.

Sardines and herring are amazingly delicious.

Anchovies are great with anything tomato-based (pasta, pizza)

Anchovies are great.

The smaller the fish, the less heavy metals they have accumulated in their flesh. The bigger and more carnivorous the fish, the worse the mercury will be. Like Tuna sushi? I got some bad news....

I don't see why people make such a big deal about mercury.  I eat tuna all the time, as well as snort fluorescent tubes and I garble gob gob just fine.

I came to post "lower mercury levels" without reading the article so that I could feel smart. But then you guys already posted it. I guess I'm just an average fish in a big ole' ocean.

I don't understand how people can eat pizza with sardines. I tried a slice a few weeks ago and just...couldn't. It's possibly the most disgusting flavor I've ever experienced.

Having said that, enjoy! I'm not one to tell others what to eat or drink.

My son and I eat a tin of sardines each every week or so. Squirt a little lemon on 'em and eat 'em with crackers right out of the tin. Mustard's good too.

It's healthy and you get a lot of omega-3's.

The real reason they are so healthy is because they're too disgusting to eat so you save calories. All the puking helps, too.

Not necessarily.  Some fish like wild salmon (which can reach 100 pounds or so) are typically very low in mercury.  That is a decent generalization, but it does have many exceptions.

I love sardines. Smoked fish in olive oil, what more do you need? I love fish, I love smoked things, and the oil really infuses the flavors together in a wonderful way.

Anchovy is the bacon of the sea. I eat them straight from the can with my fingers when my wife is out of town.

It's also laden with umami, so if you're careful about the strong flavor, you can use them to add punch to lots of sauces, stews, etc.

Kings have a life span of like 5 years or so?  Salmon grow quick, it's all the long lived predators that have the high metal content.

My grandfather would buy the sardines with mustard sauce and eat them right out of the tin with saltines.  He got me to try them once and I loved them.

Anchovies is a rather new thing in Denmark, so obviously I had to try it first time possible because of all the jokes.

So, I am grateful for them, or I probably wouldn't have discovered as fast that a proper anchovie pizza is the best pizza there is.

Yeah, king have an average lifespan of about that (can live up to 7 or 8).  I would think that age and diet are probably a better indication of metal concentrations than just size, but there are so many factors that are at play with this concern.

Mustard sardines are one of the greatest snacks in history. Tasty, nutritious, cheap, portable, super-long shelf life.

Going camping? Hiking? Stockpiling a survivalist bunker? Mustard sardines are your friend.
