Spanish Infanta Leonor -- soon to be princess -- is destined to follow her father's footsteps and undergo military training so she may one day lead the military.

I'm NOT an Infanta! I'm a big girl! Attack America and bring me Justin Bieber!

Senorita, the Americans say you can have Justin Bieber.

I'll never understand why modern countries have a royal family.

It sreves the useful purpose of separating Politics from Patriotism. You can rally around the flag and your King without implicitly endorsing the particular policies of the government at the time.

Plus it is pretty cool Cosplay. Gotta hand it to the Brits, they got nifty uniforms and outfits for *everything*. And with the Honors list, it's theoretically accessable to the commoners if they do *really* good stuff for their country and community...

Tough shiat. Being royalty does come with some responsibilities no matter how ceremonial their position is. Royalty that doesn't maintain the appearance of working hard for their country has a tendency to find themselves without a crown.

I on the other hand never understood why modern countries has a president rather than a parliamentary democracy.

The scary thing is, your president isn't a figure head.

From the outside it looks like the US is one of the worst of those, given how in real modern monarchies the royal families have more of a ceremonial role than real power.

I mean, yeah, technically there is no monarchy in the US, but given how often members of the same family end up being elected to high offices...even the presidency - if it weren't for Obama winning over Hillary, it could have been Bush, Clinton, Clinton, Bush, Bush, Clinton, Clinton
But thanks to Obama, Hillary was "only" secretary of state instead of president (which might still happen - hey, maybe 2016 will be Hillary Clinton vs ex-governor Jeb Bush).
And do we have to mention the Kennedys?

So while the US isn't a monarchy, the people tend to elect the next worst thing to it.

We know that. It's an old country because Columbus discovered a whole new world, a new fantastic point of view, no Spanish Inquisition to tell us no or where to go, or say we're only dreaming.
