We're whalers on the moon from Nippon,
We carry a harpoon.
But there ain't no whales
So we tell tall tales
And sing our whaling tune.

That dog food thing annoys me.

I think its perfectly fine to kill whales, as long as its sustainable.

But there's no reason to be dicks about it and feed it to dogs.

If they want to hunt whales as part of their cultural heritage fine, but they must do it using traditional Japanese 19th century boats and weapons.

What the fark is the point of whaling? the meat isn't tasty, and since whales are massive they tend to bioaccumulate a whole lot of nasty shiat that you really ought not to eat.

I don't farking get it.

In Alabama, they are showing all these commercials about the coal industry, and how important coal mining jobs are to Alabama, and how we gotta keep yanking coal out of the ground, even tho it is more and more obvious that coal is bad bad bad for the environment.

Basically, whaling in Japan is like that.  It is just how they lived for so long they don't want to give it up.

Has that ever stopped Japan before? Half of Japanese food is nasty shiat that you really ought not to eat. For example--Look up Shirako. And then look up what it literally means. You're welcome.

It's a proud tradition and a part of their cultural heritage. Too bad so many busybodies feel the need to push their personal views of right and wrong on other cultures.

I can make a similar argument about beer. Tastes like shiat, unhealthy and can lead to problems but still you persist.

But I'm sure it might. Feed them beer and whale meat, and you got Kobe Dog!

In the US, it is called 'chubby chasing'

Actually, we need to find a few japanese whalers with bad eyesight.  Take them and give them harpoons.  Let the loose in surburban america and let them go to town.  No bag limit.  Obesity numbers would drop.

Beer doesn't bioaccumulate mercury and other heavy metals like large sea animals do.

Not to Goddwin, but.......

Coal is a source of energy that currently powers most of the eastern side of the US.  We do not currently have a cost effective replacement.  Whale meat is not in this same boat (cringe).  If there were a cheap, safe, reliable energy source that was easy to get at like Nuclear....wait......dammit.

I wonder why Japan just doesn't drop out of the anti - whaling treaty they signed. Iceland and Norway dropped out and resumed commercial whaling and I don't recall them facing repercussions.

Plus it's not like anyone is going to really start shiat with one of the world's largest economies who also happens to have the second largest blue water navy in the world.

If we could somehow get them to believe fatties were an aphrodisiac they would be all over it. I can see them staking out positions in Walmart parking lots bagging chubbies to spark up their sex lives.

Like the Faroic Islands.

They chase a flock into shallow waters, then walk out and go mediaval on them.

Greenpeace was pissing around this, deciding that a boycut on the Faroic Islands wouldn't work, since, hey, they couldn't figure out what exactly they export. So then the decided they wanted to boycot Denmark, since they figured Denmark could preasure on the Faroic Islands.

The Danish government said that Denmark only handles foreign policy and defence of the Faroic Islands, so fark off.

Which they did.

AFAIK Pilot whales aren't a threatened species, and regardless, Greenpeace has no place in this world anyway.

So, It's okay to keep smoking and poaching whales because I have no true friends?
I am surprisingly alright with this.
Really though I have no use for whales. They are to wonderful a creature to be killed for lamp oil, cosmetics, sashimi or what ever the hell the Japanese are using them for these days.

We can power the electricity plants with whale oil instead of coal.
