Good on the judge.

This seems completely reasonable.  I've seen judges fine people for wearing a tee shirt into the court room or ordering them to leave the room.  .

As long as onions on belts are okay, that is.

I think it has more to do with the prison practice of having your belt and shoelaces removed. Then again what do I know about the ways of inner city black gang culture and white suburban teen fashion?

Anyway I've appeared in court a few times and it never once occurred to me not to dress with class. If your lawyer doesn't give you a tip on how to appear in court you may need a new lawyer and if you don't think dressing appropriately for court matters you are probably the type of person that will be showing up there often.

I saw someone the other day with pants (with heavy belt, amazingly enough) sagging so much that the waistline of his pants was just barely covering the bottom of his butt cheeks; it looked as though he had to have glued the pants in place to keep them from falling down. What is the point of wearing pants at all at that point, really?

While I hate the saggy trousers, I think this is a waste of court time and quite foolish.

Show respect in my court? Respect is earned. What better place to be disrespectful.

Good for them.  I'm tired of seeing this stupid stuff.  But, on the plus side, I've seen many stories on how the cops busted some loser because he couldn't run away because his pants fell down and got him hung up.

/Him, because for whatever reason this seems to be a male-only predicament.

I have seen the same thing.  Saw a guy come to court in shorts, tank top and a hat. Judge ordered him to change or get fined. Also, saggy pants are a thing of the past right?  On a girl?

Having spent some time in the area courthouse recently (yay orders of protection! :/) the way people dress is baffling.

Pajama pants (sheep jumping over moons) and shower caps, short shorts, torn, dirty clothing, no bra, hair hasn't seen a brush or shampoo in a loooong time...smells. I may not have worn a dress or dress pants but I was always above presentable and well groomed.

I for sure thought this saggy pants thing would be dead by now. It was cool when I was in 8th grade in 1997.

I think it's a trend started by law enforcement, it's much easier to catch these idiots with sagging pants.

But you go right ahead and make them earn your respect.

1.  He wasn't in court as a client in the first place
2.  The judge seems to be relying on his own memory as opposed to that of the sheriff, who didn't recall the sag.

here's a thought: start arresting guys for embezzling retirement funds and screwing over investors instead of smoking half a joint in the hood.  You'll be better dressed defendants that way.

In my kid's softball league, we can always tell if the parents are from the east side by how the male dresses. Pants 4 sizes too big, with entire ass exposed, flat bill baseball hat, and flashy sneakers. This is fine for a 13 yr old, but we wonder how someone in their 20's, and early 30's can look in the mirror, and think "hey, this looks good". We call them vanilla icers

A friend of mine is married to a cop and he says the police love the unlaced boots/baggy pants combo. The minute a suspect runs the shoes go flying and the pants drop and it's like you're Batman perfectly throwing a bola.

Okay. Next time you stand before a judge, especially as a defendant, you wear those saggy pants. And when the judge tells you to pull them up, vociferously remind him or her that they have yet to earn your respect.

Then you make sure to come back here to let us know how well that worked out for you.
