Be careful. Someone might mistake it for a different kind of camp

Went to a burn in OH last month. When I left there was nothing to hint that 400 people had been there. Not a piece of paper. Not a single cigarette butt. Nothing. People cleaned up after themselves.

In closing... bite me, subby.

I can pretty much guess that Subby has never been to Burning Man and thinks it operates like Bonaroo.

For five days, participants - mostly Israelis - created a temporary city dedicated to creativity, communal living and what the festival calls "radical self-expression."
Some came costumed in cape or corset. Others, from babies to grandparents, went nude. Participants brought their own food and water, and shared with others. The only thing on sale was ice because of the scorching heat.
There were workshops in sculpture, drawing, and touch therapy. There was music and theater. At the "tent of heaven and hell," participants were chosen at random for one of two fates: getting massages or doing chores.
During the day, Bedouin shepherds meandered to the fence surrounding the festival to observe the spectacle. When day turned to night, a larger-than-life wooden sculpture was set on fire.

When Moses gets back, he's going to put a stop to that shiat.

I actually find pictures of the original Burning Man pretty uninspiring also. I'm not all that impressed by pictures of someone dressed up funny next to someone not dressed at all. I'm sure if I were there, and talking to the folks, it'd be fun, but now that I can afford the tickets, I have a wife who disapproves.

The fact that they picked up ALL the trash - even for a Burn - is what makes it weird. Israelis littering is like a national pastime (but everyone's semi-pro at least).

// never seen a US city stuffed with trash like that
// though I hear it's getting better - people are actually putting recyclable stuff in appropriate receptacles now!

When I talk to people who went to the original event versus what is going on at those events now, it is a Woodstock type of thing. The first event was cool, everything afterward is making it an embarrassment. I am not sure if humans know how to do it any other way.

Since about 2010, most people just bag their trash and leave it on the playa.

Burning Man has always been whatever you can get away with, and a lot of us do.

protip:  Those MOOP charts are total B.S. brainwashing for fools as is every other glossy flier the BMORG hands you at the gate.

Look around on the playa the day after exodus and tell me what you actually see.

Burning man is not real.  You are buying an idea.

You have to have your camp inspected before you can leave? Is it a concert or a military field training exercise?

You do realize that there are DPW teams that do nothing but clean up moop *after* exodus, right?

Heck yes, we love those guys.  That's why we bag it up for them.  It takes one guy running a bobcat with fork extensions exactly one pick to clean up our entire camp and dump it in the truck.

We're saints.  If we didn't like DPW we'd bring bags of confetti out there and just throw it all over the place for the whole week.

If I can give them a mortgage payment for two tickets (and now they want $40 more per vehicle?) , they can do their part and give back to the community by using their heavy infrastructure in a way that benefits all.

/8 times to the Ephemeral City, 9 burns thanks to Paul (RIP).  Went last year, taking this year off.  Burning Man is a sham.  A fun sham, but a sham nonetheless.  They're they Jeffery Sanker of playa parties.  Gimme yo money, sucka!
