To do list

1. Hoard tea.
1. Hoard more tea.
2. Call Mother. Tell her it's time to start building the greenhouse. Let her know she where can buy tea seeds online.
3. Find out if Camellia flowers are the same plant as real tea or just an ornamental variety like miniature oranges
4. Buy that land on Baffin Island to start planned post-retirement plantation.
5. Add tea to crop list. Coffee, tea, chocolate, bananas?

In truth, this was a pyrrhic victory for Salmon. Under the terms of the $931,000 grant, all the money has been committed up front. That small detail didn't appear on Salmon's Facebook page, so it didn't dampen the outpouring of support he received from his Arizona constituents.

You go on with your bad ass self, Representative.

I'm all for increasing science spending by a factor of two. More research, more jobs based on that research, and a boost in competitiveness.

2014-06-09 06:55:59 PM
I prefer Chai.

2014-06-09 07:27:40 PM
More contradictory BS from climate change deniers:

1) We don't know enough to know if it's true!
2) We need to cut spending on finding out more!

You don't need to understand science. You just have to see that the deniers arguments are bullshiat.

2014-06-09 07:29:02 PM
Jesus, he really doesn't understand climate, does he? It doesn't matter what type of animal or crop is being studied, the point is that they have something to use as a baseline, and changes to map from there.

This wasn't to "benefit a foreign cash crop", it's because they have data that is relevant to the farking discussion.

So glad I don't live in AZ anymore, these guys are actually making individual politicians in Utah look good.

That's not what the article says.  (why do I believe commenters read articles again?)

TL;DR fashion: climate change will influence the duration of the monsoon (raining season) for China.  Rain has an effect on tea leaves composition diminishing their quality.  Climate change means Fartbongo and the Dems have a point but the Tea Party opposes anything having to do with Obama.

2014-06-09 07:41:28 PM
FTFA: Rep. Matt Salmon (R-AZ) just cut funding to a science program that he says "didn't pass the laugh test"

Like the Tea Party itself. So how come the Kochs still fund it?

In other news, the English government has just passed legislation to immediately stop all CO2 emissions.

(except breathing)

Huh. It appears they actually are studying Tea, rather than the Tea Party.

I stand by my previous statement. Worse, since the money's already spent, it's pretty much useless effort, save to NOT have the data already paid for. He may or may not have swung his nutsack after he did this, but I'll leave that for the ages to decide...

You see, if there is no baseline then there is nothing to worry about since there'll be nothing to go to when something goes wrong.  Think of this as an investment in the environment denialism in the future.  Fracking is a good example.  If there are no studies, then it is difficult to say how it changed the environment.

Or it would be, if it didn't wield disproportionate power in the political structure of a nation that wields disproportionate power.
