From the race "race to the bottom", I thought this might be something about free trade, and dealing with nations that have insufficient safety and environmental standards and Obama's slightly irrational adherence to the idea that "all trade is good trade".

But, of course, trade deficits and their long-term impacts is now in the list of things republicans don't want to talk about, since they'd have to criticize from the left.  I actually miss Clinton era republicans now.

From another thread, credit to Quasar:

Let me guess. When they lose elections, they spend the interim inventing scandals, roadblocking, and going on 'news' programs lying about how bad the other side is, then when all their hard work makes the country worse off, they convince stupid people that it's not their fault but if you elect them they'll clean it all up. Then they get elected, turn everything to shiat but line up lucrative deals for themselves and cronies, blame the previous administration, and eventually get voted out and repeat the process.

It's how things have worked since 1976 at least in my memory ... if you say it goes back to the 40s, I certainly won't doubt you.

It's making fun of political cartoons, wherein the artists see treason in every benign change in society(just even less political).  The character of Kelly, the fictional creator of The Onion political cartoons is a person who invests the idea of America and Freedom into every mundane aspect of his life.  It's not particularly clever satire(except for the occasional winner), but it's an excellent representation of how hackish political cartoonists use metaphor.

At this point we should just let some states secede and then annex their military bases, because that's what leaders full of feck do.

I don't know, I'm kinda tired of the "everyday thing is treason" ones.  The ones that aren't any different than actual political cartoons published without a hint of irony though... they tend to be the most biting.

What Obama needs to do is show up at the RNC in a toga with a pride of lions. With the persecution complex on the right they'd be jamming themselves down the lion's throats to get on Fox News.

"America going out of business"

We should keep in mind that the recovery period for the 2001 tech crash was roughly 4-5 years. It was also called a "jobless recovery" and at the time most Americans believed it dragged on and on. The scale of the 2008 crash was far greater and it harmed several of our trading partners. Households were hit hard and their trouble passed into our consumer based economy.

It will take time to unwind/fix the damage of the last crisis.

//Cheers

Cause and effect, again. Clinton maintained a great economy until W decided to finish daddy's oil war in Iraq and crash the economy. Current economic problems, while they stem from W's failures, are caused by obstructionist, "Obama will be a one-term president" Republicans who aren't doing anything to benefit us. If you disagree, tell me by holding on high the latest budget proposal agreed upon by Republicans and drafted by Paul Ryan. And then go back to drooling all over what the white old men tell you to.

The Bush economy was the worst job and GDP growth of any administration since Eisenhower. And that was before the crash.
