No alcohol seems to be the common denominator for these old-timers.

Doesn't seem much worth it though.

FTA : "I don't know, I simply didn't die earlier," he quipped. "I have no idea how this happened."

I'm 45 years old, and had this guy died back in 1974 when I was just five, people at his funeral would have said then, "He lived a good long life."

Depends on who you ask....

World's Second Oldest Man was Regular Moderate Drinker
The world's second oldest man has died at age 111. Born in Essen in 1893, Hermann Doernemann had a daily drink of alcohol and enjoyed good health until a week or so before his death.
The world's longest-living man, Shigechiyo Izumi of Japan, lived for 120 years and 237 days and died in 1986. His favorite beverage was Shochu, an alcoholic drink distilled from barley.
The moderate consumption of alcohol (beer, wine or distilled spirits) is associated with better health and greater longevity than is either abstaining or drinking heavily.

The rank of world's oldest man will now go to Sakari Momoi of Japan, also 111 and born just a day after Imich in 1903

Makes me wonder if a second-oldest person was ever born the day before the oldest because of time zones. File that under stuff you usually only think about on New Year's Eve.

If you can think on New Years Eve you're doing it wrong. =)

No hard drinking, then.

Why is this sad? The man lived a much longer life than he could have ever hoped for.

who the hell wants to live that old.  I would rather check out in my 60s.  You still look good, people remember you for having a good time.  When your in your 80s you forget shiat and you start to stink.

My grandaunt will hit the 101 mark in a few days. When the reaper-guy sometime comes to her, he'd better be fit this day ... she can hold one's liquor... ^^
