Whelp, that's it then.  This is the crack in the dyke that will doom us all.  We'll never have premises being rigorously vetted by scientists be the norm again.

I *think* it's from the movie poster. "The average human only uses 10% of their brain. Imagine what she could do with 100%."

That being said, since when did we expect Hollywood to hold up to scientific rigor?

grumpfuff: I *think* it's from the movie poster. "The average human only uses 10% of their brain. Imagine what she could do with 100%."

Uh, the poster reads "brain capacity".  As you know, the brain is very wrinkly.  If we rolled our brains instead of wadding them up into a ball we could probably fit 10x as much brain.  That's just science.  And hey, who says brains can only be in the big part of the skull?  I rarely use all of my bladder, I could fit some more brain in there.

Movies aren't real.

GET OVER IT!

I'm sure Subby prefers the scientific rigor of X-Men, Iron Man, Captain America or Thor.

So... Submitter is just now hearing about this movie?
I've been seeing previews for months.

I hadn't heard of it, but wow, Scarlett Johannson is working a ton lately.  Not that I mind, she's great, I'm just surprised she has so many seemingly big projects in the air at once.

Now The Core on the other hand...

I liked your headline, subby. I had a similar thought when I saw the preview for this movie during the NBA Finals.

2014-06-09 01:19:06 AM
I had similar thoughts the first time I saw a preview for this movie, though apparently without the outrage. I figured the movie looks interesting enough and Scarlett Johannson looks hot enough that I can forgive it being based on a stupid premise. After all, most movies are based on stupid premises; you just have to suspend your disbelief and go with it if you want to be entertained.

Besides, everyone knows that the remaining 9/10 of brain capacity is for storing penguins.

Don't "BTW" me you piece of shiat.  I said, farking quote here:  "science".  Don't try to squeeze in on my research motherfarker.  I'm not et al-ing shiat.  100% staplermofo.  Nature, Cell, Econometrica, ... I thought it was for reading the politics tab... which only proves the point that most people don't use those 9/10.

Oh, they've been doing that for a long time. The premise for the zombie drug in the Resident Evil movies is based on the "fact" that your hair and nails keep growing after you die (the don't).

It's an unusual but not incorrect use of the word.

ro·man·tic
adjective
1. of, pertaining to, or of the nature of romance; characteristic or suggestive of the world of romance: a romantic adventure.
2. fanciful; impractical; unrealistic: romantic ideas.

Subby is also complaining that movies aren't always rigorously scientific, so....

It's the old "we only use 10% of our brain - what if we could use more?" trope.  Which I agree is very old and stale at this point, as well as patently untrue.  Then again, this is just your average sci-fi shoot-em-up starring the luminous Scarlett Johansson, so I'm ok with that.

On my phone because the picture is so tiny, it looks as if Scarlett's nip is visible. Which is nice.
