Russia's captain won't make it. Croatia is now on left back #3.

This world cup starts to feel like the ice hockey world cup when it's scheduled at the same time as the NHL playoffs.

Do you have a favorite player? favorite color? What country are you from? Favorite country? Travel, family, etc. Doesn't make much sense to pick a team just because I like them. I picked Liverpool because I am English living in America. I had been to a game at world cup 1994, had watched 1998, and watched almost all of 2002. Liverpool had quite a few players in the England squad. I had seen Nottingham Forrest when I lived in England and they were red, and I needed a team that would remain in the Top league because I couldn't see any championship league on tv.

So Liverpool fit for me.

I only started watching the EPL this season. Picked Swansea because I'd heard good things about their style of play during the previous season's EPL threads. Not a bad move really, they're fun to watch.

Gonzales must be less than 100%, b/c Cameron looked farking awful last game. He can't be our starting center back, can he? "Oh, he plays in England, therefore, he must be better!" Except he's farking awful, and has been recently. Same goes for Jozy. "Oh, Jozy has a skill set no one else on the team has." And if he's utter shiat, his skill set is failure, which I'd hope we don't bring into camp. Bench. His. Ass. "Oh, I'm Jurgen Klinsmann and I don't cater to stars." So bench a lousy player and put in a guy who's actually performing, like Johannson and Wondo.

That said, compared to the glory days of Jeff Agoos and Robbie Findley, I guess we shouldn't be complaining too much anymore.

any favorite player, position, or country. Most of the teams are full of players of other nationalities. Sunderland, everton, villa, and stoke all have an American playing for them. Everton play in blue, and like the cubs they are the second best team from the city

i have enjoyed watching everton as well for the reasons you listed (except the second best crack, jerk) but i am looking for a guide of sorts.  to put it in persective, twice i have had the opportunity at wrigley to share the history of the cubs, sad as it may be, to tourists from outside the US and convert them to fans both of the game and hopefully the team.  i understand soccer more than the aussies i spoke to did baseball, but i am looking for a conversation about what the fans themselves appriciate about their teams.

Hey when I follow baseball I'm a cubs fan too. I think you'll be lying if you didn't think the socks have been better.

The problem with football is the tribalism. So it is hard to have an honest conversation about the teams. One person will say that their team values teamwork and hard work above flair players, divers, and selfishness. The next will say that they have good players, and the other team is full of thugs who can only tackle and play hoofball.

Come on dude.  The Blackhawks and Bulls both have titles in the last twenty years.  If you want to complain about shiatty sports teams, become a Cleveland or Buffalo fan.  Jets/Mets/Knicks/Islanders fan works as well.

For Swansea, I just like the fact that they rarely ever try to park the bus. They try to play their brand of football against every opponent.

Tottenham. They are usually pretty good so no worries about a relegation soon, but the aren't front runners/bandwagon right now so you could sneak in without getting mocked. Now they are always the team that is JUST BARELY out so you have to deal with the heartbreak of that. Heck, top 4 teams make it to UEFA and the one year they ended up 4th, Chelsea upsets Bayern and steals the spot.
In the past 9 years, they've finished 5th and just missed Champions a total of 4 times, 6th place once, they missed champions as the 4th team once, and made UEFA one time.

And their mascot is a Cock and balls

I would recommend trying to get into the MLS. I've found it's just so much more accessible than the EPL, even if the skill level isn't as high. The games are on at more convenient times, it feels natural for me to root for the Revs since I'm also a big Boston Celtics fan, and no one needs to convince me that Portland-Seattle matters. Way easier than waking up on a Saturday morning and trying to figure out where Crystal Palace is.
