Paul Allen.

Anybody who would buy Captain Kirk's original command console and Jimi Hendrix' Woodstock guitar should be an interesting landlord. Plus, he could buy my city from his lunch money.

Me.

I'm not there yet, but I've. Got. A Plan...

Sorry, having obnoxious TRUMP letters is bad enough.

syrynxx: Sorry, having obnoxious TRUMP letters is bad enough.

And the fact Trump is not even in the same ballpark money wise as billionaires. Most of Trumps money is smoke and mirrors and bank loans that can not be called in for fear of making the loaning bank look like idiots. What kind of businessman loses money owing a casino?

I do wonder what state will be the first to be bought outright by a corporation  instead of just  renting and owing the politicians.

Never.  It will never happen.  That would mean the corporation would bear direct responsibility and consequences for the crap they do.  Buying another layer or several limits liability.

Looks like Zuck could own my hometown. Could be worse. I spose he'd be a benevolent dictator, but it would suck when he changed all the road signage and street layouts every few weeks without announcement.

The people in this thread could probably put enough money together to buy Detroit.

Boston? The last time I checked he could buy Vancouver 30 times over.

With that kind of money you could start your own feudal system and have heaps of Microserfs.

(I'd say at current prices he might only be able to buy 20 Vancouvers or so, but it's hard to be precise. However, I think Vancouvers make a good measure of billionaire wealth and urge you to adopt this metric.)

Elon Musk.  He can build his battery plant AND a functional space port.  Plus I would get a chance to see more Teslas on the road.

I like Hank Scorpio a lot but I don't agree on his policy of destroying France. Still, if you had to live under a dictator, he's probably be one of the good 'uns because he seems like a modern, liberal, benevolent dictator type. A little bit too suburban maybe.

My choice as well.

I live in Monterey and I think it's already mostly owned by one guy.

More to the point, the Waltons could buy every home in Seattle and still have over $43B left in their bank accounts.

If *I* can't run my own Bartertown, I'd want Ben Gazzara to have the job. He wouldn't go behind our backs, and he always conducts his business with a smile. Plus, how many people can say that a polar bear fell on them?

Zuckerberg, Bezos and Page could share Charm City... if it meant a fiber optic network and drone deliveries, I could live with the Candy Crush billboards.

If it floats, flies, or farks it is cheaper to rent.

I bet that rule would also apply to a state.
