You don't tug on Superman's cape. You don't spit in the wind. And you never, ever trust your physical well being to a Floridian carny.

570' tall and it only goes 65mph? Something something physics

2014-06-07 01:13:37 AM
65 miles per hour? Wow, that's almost as fast as some 25-year-old wooden coasters. How thrilling. Now if they had said 165, they might have had me.

Looks like it will last all of 10 seconds, too. I'll stick with Busch Gardens.

Other than America actually sucking for all the other reasons, I think many foreigners think America sucks just because Florida is the only part of America they've ever visited.

Oh, and most people who can afford to vacation here have shorter work days, higher minimum wages, longer vacations, better pregnancy leave, single payer heath care, less stress, better mental health options, better prisons, and they're all actually pretty humble about it, not insisting they live in the "greatest country in the world". Oops, sorry, I covered that in the "America actually sucking for other reasons" caveat above.

Really.  The Top Fuel Dragster at Cedar Point and Kingda-Ka at Six Flag New Jersey are the current 1 and 2 tallest and hit close to 120mph to climb the 400+ ft

Strongbeerrules: Why does Drew have a problem with Florida?

Drew really doesn't have a problem with Florida. It's just that in the early days of FARK, it became noticed that so many weird news stories were coming out of Florida. The Florida recount cemented it.

Back in '92 when Fiesta Texas opened the Rattler was the world's tallest & fastest wooden roller coaster. Debut: height of 179 feet , a first drop of 166 feet and a top speed of 73 mph

After 1994 re-model : first drop was shortened from 166 to 124 feet , resulting in a reduction of its top speed from 73 to 65 miles per hour

I had whiplash after I rode that thing. It was tamed down after a few seasons

Top Fuel and Kingda-Ka (essentially the same coaster with a different theme), are launch coasters. Awesome rides, but this is a gravity (traditional) coaster. Still, at that height, it should go as fast as Millennium Force (90+).

That climb up is probably the scariest part of the ride.

If you ride it during a hurricane it will feel like you are doing up to 200 miles an hour. Of course the weinies will close it at the first sign of a storm.

Cedar Point is out of the "bigger, faster" game. They're out of room for something that big. Honestly, I'm not crying over it. Instead, they're making some really cool, really fun roller coasters of late. Bigger doesn't mean better.

That's good to hear. It makes sense. In the '60s and '70s it was already awesome fun for a kid even with "tamer" rides. And by 1970 already 100 years old....I have a centennial coin somewhere.
