Well, he has a gigantic pickup truck in his driveway which should be fair warning that he'll shoot without warning anyone that enters his property . Because this is 'merica, that's why.

While it doesn't sound like it should have reached Shootenanny levels, it does sound like the drunkards got in an argument with him because he wouldn't let them back into a birthday party he wasn't holding at the time.  Subby is also implying he knew there WAS a birthday party down the street, and shot the guy instead.

It was definitely worth a 911 call and definitely not worth a shooting.  But I could understand being a little fearful if someone you don't know starts banging on your door in the middle of the night and then arguing with you because you won't let them in.  It would be disconcerting to say the least.

In a 2008 case, Emmanuel Dozier awakened to the sound of men trying to break into his Henderson home. Believing they were attempting a home invasion robbery, Dozier shot through his front door and wounded three men. At the time, his girlfriend, her 13-year-old daughter and the couple's 3-month-old son were in the home.

It turned out the men were Las Vegas police SWAT officers serving a drug-related search warrant. The SWAT officers said they announced themselves as police before using a battering ram and a shotgun to try and break down the door.

SURE they did.

Curious, why are Toyota Tundras always spotless? You'd think that if someone bought a pickup truck it's because they need it for a job...

Exactly.

It's pretty goddamn stupid to drunkenly argue with a frightened total stranger while banging on his door at 1am.

But it's likely that if this guy didn't have a gun, noone would have been shot and Wasted McWasterson would simply be hauled off by the cops.

*shrug*

Right. And this is when you call 911, but have your gun out and ready in case the person actually enters your house. Warn them that they will be shot if they enter.

Shooting through a closed door? Yeah, that's reckless and irresponsible.

Why is he not being charged yet? Is this seriously a thing, where you can shoot through a door to protect yourself?

Isn't the door doing a good enough job? They are still only banging on it, dude.

I hope he sees the inside of a cell.

People who buy pickup trucks out of necessity don't buy Toyotas.

Among many other things, one more great reason not to buy (or ever visit) a house that looks exactly like all the other houses in the neighborhood.

Probably (hopefully) just following procedure to make sure everything is done properly and by the book. The guy is of minimal risk to reoffend in the meantime and likely a low flight risk. Taking a day to make sure things are done right is worth it.

Calling a cop can wind up being exspensive, bullets are cheaper.n my neighborhood, all he have are girl scouts and people passing fliers for political candidates. I need a turret.

bullet hole just above the peephole? that's a shot to kill, not to warn or wound.

Defense in court will be, they sounded black. He will then get recognition and accolades got only firing once.

Should spend long long time in prison. Maybe he should have had a handy flow chart.

1) Is door still closed?
Yes- wait 10 seconds repeat question 1.
No- go to 2

2) do you know them?
Yes- go to 3
No - go to 4

3) do you like them?
Yes- don't shoot them and laugh the whole thing off
No- go to question. 5

4) are they angry and brandishing weapons
Yes- shoot them
No- show them gun tell them you will shoot them in 10 seconds, wait 10 seconds (go to 5)

5) did they leave
Yes - tell your story to news and profit
No - shoot them, tell your story to news and profit

Still need to figure out where to put the questions about skin color and whether they are carrying skittles.

Once long ago, I was hanging out with then-bf and a roomate at our house, playing some video game. Suddenly, we heard the front door open. We gave each other a weird "are YOU expecting company?" look. Bf reached for his gun, roomie got his machete. We went to the living room and a random dude was just standing there, looking confused. "Ummm...oh, this isn't my house?" No dude, its not. "Oh, ok then. Sorry about that." And then he left. And we learned to keep the door locked. But more importantly, he didnt get killed over a stupid mistake. Even if he had come in looking for trouble, he wouldn't have gotten far between the two big violent guys next to me. I don't think its entirely reasonable to assumethat every stranger who comes knocking is some psycho killer.

Clearly the answer to stop this madness is more guns.

No, they probably did, but saying something outside a guy's house while he's asleep isn't particularly effective notice that he shouldn't shoot when he is awakened a moment later by battering rams and shotguns at his front door. It so much isn't particularly effective, in fact, that it really shouldn't be considered relevant.

Shotguns being used from the other side is one of the few situations where I might not agree with

I believe a recording eventually emerged (after much denial of its existence from the police) that proved the police did NOT announce themselves.

Well, if bullets passed through the door going one way they probably would have done so going the other. Being behind the door wasn't 100% safe, not that justified Shooty McTriggerpants here. I would fire semi-blindly through a closed door under certain conditions myself, but they'd be quite dire and certain.

"You can use deadly force if you have a reasonable belief that your life is being threatened. If someone's breaking through your front door, you don't have to wait for them to get through the front door" to shoot, Rasmussen said.

Like when cops are serving a no-knock warrant?

2014-06-05 09:32:28 PM
Let's see...  "They did not understand why they weren't being let back in and banged on the door while arguing with the homeowner, who had come to the door, police said. The homeowner shot one time through the closed door, hitting one of them in the chest.".  So, what are we to expect the homeowner to think when some stranger starts beating on the door and arguing?  The moral of this story is that booze makes you stupid.
