Pretty strong choice but I think Brasil is going to take it.

Mind you I only watch soccer during the World Cup but I can't bet against the bossa nova.

Would love to watch American win, 'cause I want to watch the world burn.

I have the Germans winning it over Brazil as well, but I'd like to see the Belgians advance to the semis.  Will be difficult since they'll likely have to play either Germany or Portugal in the round of 16.

Best case is America advances on weak fouls every game, and wins the final on a penalty kick in the last minute. After which the refs immediately call time, so the opponent doesn't have a chance to score.

I just put in my bracket for the pool that I'm in, and I have Germany losing to Uruguay in the final, so I'm getting a kick.

My EU4 game tells me that in the 1400's, England fully took over France.

Time to rewrite the history books and tell those Frenchies to start speaking the proper language.

OK. that settlesthat now we can go back to better things.

Honestly, I don't understand the allure of soccer. If I wanted to watch a bunch of gay men flop all over each other I'd just show up to any cast party after a performance of Rent.

This is not news. The only news I see hear, is that EA made a video game for the most boring sport in the world. I guess moving the toggle stick to the left and to the right for a couple of hours can be entertaining to some people.

The problem with the whole "Belgium as darkhorse contender" narrative is that it's very dependent upon actual contributions from Marouane Fellaini.

Or manatees who push different colored balls from one side of a tank to the other.

2014-06-05 07:43:53 PM
So I'm trying to think of the video game that (almost) correctly predicted the surrender ultimatum from the 1991 Soviet coup.

I think it was a tac/strat tank game. And some dialog screen in there had you demanding the USSR's Premier/President/something give up and surrender, in almost the exact same language that someone (Varennikov?) wrote to someone (I assume Gorbachev).

Anyone remember this story?

i wouldnt be surprised seeing portugal not getting out of the group stage.  highly overrated as a team

I'd want to avoid being the team that beats Brazil. And I definitely wouldn't want to be the ref that calls a penalty that costs them a game.

They take things pretty seriously in those parts. You're not just going to get some angry tweets from Americans.

Still, a ref being murdered mid-tournament for costing them the game may provoke enough outrage that they'll stop holding these things in shiatty countries.

What's the fun in that? FIFA officials would lose their boats in Monaco and country homes in Spain.
