Conceptually, quite a few of those were very close to reality.

Probably a repeat. Those pictures look familiar and Fark is the only website I use to explore the internet.

This would have all happened if not for that damn Hitler.

Some of those are pretty close.  And from what I have read recently, it looks like we there are constant plans to switch back to balloons for air travel.  They are much more fuel efficient than airplanes, because you don't have to apply a constant source of energy just to keep if off the ground.

1: computerized education

2: we have electric trimmers, but grooming is still largely done by hand

3: not totally different from commercial air travel

4: ladder trucks and helicopters, I guess

5: Some countries do utilize light aircraft to intercept smugglers. Like Brazil with their Embraer Super Tucano.

6: Aerial battles. Yup.

7: Aerial bombardment. Yup.

8: Hunting from the air. Yup, although mostly by game wardens for population control, and Russian oligarchs.

9: Children flying, no.

10: It's old-timey Skype.

11: Commercial air travel again.

12: As mentioned before, grooming is still largely manual

13: Industrialized agriculture. We got dis.

14: Roomba

15: We did better in terms of motorized geeky personal transport. That one silly scooter thing that you control by leaning.

16: er, no.

17: Nope. But we do have jet skis.

18: Scuba diving is a popular recreational activity.

19: Again, jet skis.

20: Scuba diving, not fishing for birds.

21: Well, I'm sure some scuba divers have had to defend themselves from sea creatures.

My 8 year old brain (1985) thought the world would be on the verge of Star Trek  in the year 2000.

I got confused because the link has number 8 listed twice so this is actually 15, but I'm thinking submarines although we don't torture whales to power them. That's what we have sonar for.

This is a repeat.  In any case, I think the intent of these was at least semi-joking when released.

That's a good point. I interpreted it as using submarines as mass transit like a ferry or an underwater bus. Too slow.

It's kind of disappointing that this never happened. It would be pretty cool to live in a world of old timey craziness where everyone has insane steampunk wings.

Funny thing is, most of America actually thinks we're in the Star Trek era. Free energy, replicators magically dispensing food, big screen TV's, global instant communications, weather dampeners, no need for money. All provided free by centralized government so everyone can work on their creative juices and never have to worry about anything but when is the damn teleporter going to be here, next month?

And BS, I know evil corporations are holding back the holodeck to make evil profits.

The source novel for "2001"  was written in 1968. It predicted we'd have visited Saturn by now. Silly, quaint us.
