We buried a WW2 hero a couple weeks ago.

He earned the Silver Star and no one in our community knew about it until the funeral.

They were like that.
RIP Chester and Col. Roy

*Salutes*

Doubly sad that such a language could be considered "code" - it would be good to revive it. To invigorate his spirit.

Yes, and they will be needed when we need to lead a coordinated attack after Hitler bombs Pearl Harbor again.

That's 'cause "Chester" is code for his real name.

That cartoon isn't actually too far from the truth.

It is commonly believed that the Navajo code was unbreakable because the language was complex, but the "code" just consisted of Navajo vocab words, mostly just to spell out letters, e.g. "HORSE ELK LION PIG" to send the word "HELP."  There were a bunch of specific words for aircraft, countries, and military terms, but mostly it was just spelling out English messages with the Navajo equivalent of Able Baker Charlie Dog.''

I'm sure it was his legal given name. All the Navajos I know have very traditional Anglo-Saxon first names -- Winifred, George, Alison, Gilbert, Lynnette . . . my Navajo brother-in-law is a Gregory. They're kinda like the Asians when it comes to naming.
