There's something to be said for efficiency.  If a convenient simplification makes regular interactions easier, that's not always a bad thing.  We could spend a lot of time worrying about which of 51 different gender pronouns a given person prefers, and whether or not they'll be offended if somebody picks the wrong one.  Or we could just pick the most apparent out of 2.

It's really not complicated. If you refer to someone's gender incorrectly and it's an honest mistake and you meant nothing by it, and the reaction of the person you did it to is immediate outrage, vociferous anger, or anything along those lines, that person is the asshole.

If the person makes any effort, however awkward, to correct you, and your reaction is something close to indignation, anger, or victimization, you're the asshole.

If you decide to just refer to the person the way you feel like referring to them and to hell with what they want, you're of too little value to even be rated an asshole.

So you're OK with a trans person preferring the pronoun of how they present, then.  Presents as a female?  Female pronouns.  I'm sure that will work for the trans folk you meet.

While it seems you're saying we should go with whichever of two someone decides they are, male or female based on their preference, which is a good start, I disagree with your call for efficiency, at least as a be all and end all.  I believe we are capable of maintaining more distinctions.  I can point to one easy example which most of us are familiar with, cars and trucks.  In your world, there would only be cars and trucks.  However, I bet you're familiar and comfortable with the difference between sedans, coupes, convertibles, pickups (step-sides and fleet-sides), vans (cargo, passenger and mini), and station wagons.  Why would it be any more difficult to maintain a similar lexicon when dealing with a persons gender or sex?

In your example, sure, but an answer to, "Which car is yours?" of "The black pickup" or "The red minivan" or "The blue convertible" is common enough.  My point is that we have the capability to maintain such distinctions if we choose to.

Not that it matters, my point wasn't about how something presents itself, only that we have the capability to identify things beyond a binary construct.  The fact that you took it where you did is indicative of the problem "I see the world as X and someone wanting to live differently is offensive to me and I refuse to compromise even though doing so actually has nothing to do with me in the first place"

Sounds like an opinion to me. Discussing an opinion you disagree with as "misinformation" is intellectually dishonest.
If you have an actual opinion of your own, by all means, propound, expound, and defend it - it will still only be your opinion, but at least it will be honest.
