The proper way to demonstrate scale on Hoth.

Did you know that the hole's only natural enemy is the pile?

Very cool pics... I knew that the mine was in the middle of a lake, but I thought they'd drained it or something. IIRC, this mine was predicted rather precisely based on geological data with nobody ever exploring that area for diamonds before, like totally done through number crunching algorithms for likely places to look for diamonds.

You only get to mine in the smaller hole when the island is on its period.

It's even bigger than you think. That's an extra large dump truck in the picture.

Like a diamond mine.

That's pretty badass.

CSB: I once was in an open-pit coal mine in Indiana in an SUV. We were being followed down the windy gravel road by one of those gigantic dump trucks like shown in TFA. That's pretty goddamn intimidating.

It really is a perfect metaphor for an "inadequacy" inspirational poster, though...

Car and Driver

did a test drive of one of those. Apparently it's like steering a three-storey house.

Ice Road pansies!

Let me know when they're going on the valley run weekly (or more) year round unless it hits the hard 40. Oh, and have'em do it in trucks built in the 1940's.

Oh, and Diavik is hardly 'top of the world'...

Looks like a Euclid.
I used to work with those when I worked for USS.
