It's a really brilliant strategy.

Because how fast would you be able to play an online game on Comcast anyway?

Good to know those still exist.

I don't see the problem with this.  Trials Fusion™ is the hit racing/platformer hybrid which recreates the experience of playing an old Nintendo game in an emulator and using save states after every difficult obstacle.  The game's fundamentally flawed approach to difficulty immersed me like no other game.  And thanks to Comcast™, I can now play Trials Fusion™ with the fastest internet possible.  Anyone who thinks Comcast™ is being dishonest is probably a loser who sits in his mom's basement and plays videogames all day.  That's why I'm proud to choose Comcast™, which allows me to surf the internet from anywhere in my house.  Even my basement!  Thanks again, Comcast™, for giving me the world's best internet at the world's best prices.

I find it hard to believe that a large ISP would lie to me

2014-06-04 11:57:27 AM
Why do they even bother advertising anymore? Where the fark in this country (aside from the few places Google is available) do people have such a huge selection of ISPs that any of them even waste money on advertisements? If you have an ISP, this is really the only commercial you need, and it needs to only be played once, the first time the cable box or modem is powered up:

"You have no other viable, competitive option. Suck it, and pay us for the privilege of doing so."

Time to call comcast. I washed and waxed the car and I was out buffering that thing for about an hour.

2014-06-04 12:00:12 PM
"Do you notice any buffering?" Mr. Comcast then asks.
The gamers happily reply that they do not!

That's because Comcast uses only the highest quality electrons in their equipment and not those cheap, imported electrons.

Use to work for a oursource call center with a contract to support Comcast, did support for their TV, Internet and Phone services while I was there.

Does not suprise me. Given how messed up their system was back then.

Why bother trying when Comcast™ has already set the bar so high?  It would simply be disrespectful to aim for a Comcastic™ level of discourse.

Games... buffer? I've heard of them lagging, and timing out, but never buffering... maybe they're getting their streaming video terminology crossed with lag issues because they relegated their Google to the slow lane?

I'm paying them about $86 a month for a decent bandwidth and a very small amount of HD channels.

If I wasn't getting decent bandwidth, you really think I'd be shelling out $86 a month? Fark no.

We went from dialup to Comcast, and was happy until they started limiting us to 300gig a month.  Every month now, around the 20th I start get reminders about either getting additional gigs or getting off line.

I should probably point out to the youngsters that that has an acoustic modem - the kind where you picked up an old fashioned telephone and attached it to those rubber cups in the back.

300 baud was more than enough speed to play Adventure.

Don't let your saved game sessions (rolls of thermal paper) on the windowsill.  The sunlight will destroy them.

I have Comcast and really have no lag issues. I have some when my stepson gets on his PS4, but that;'s more because my router doesn't really support bandwidth throttling.

Well, let me rephrase my first statement: I don't have any more problems I've had with anyone else.

Just a tip for everyone: DON'T SWITCH TO CENTURYLINK!!!! I don't know what their service is like long term, but their business organization is obviously where all of the chimps from the super bowl commercial a few years ago ended up. Never dealt with such a farked up company.

Trials Fusion?  Its like an indie game mixed with excite bike.  Its not really set up to directly race someone.

These companies have been lying to 'gamers' for a long time.
They will say things like increasing your through-put from 10mbps to 15mbps will make you more competitive in online games.
Thing is, games use very little bits/second.
I just don't think that they ever improve things in a way that helps gamers.
like with network latency.
But your connection to the game server is only going to make a small number of hops through machines owned by your internet provider. other bottlenecks likely apply because of this, and are completely out of their control

I don't think they ever, at least intentionally, improve an aspect of their service that helps gamers in any way (except perhaps to make it quicker to download games and the patches)

If they are actually doing something to make online play better, then why aren't they specific as to what it is? because I'm pretty sure these speed increases don't do a damn thing when your game is communicating in kilobytes per second.

2014-06-04 01:39:29 PM
Can someone explain what it would mean if a game "buffered"? Even if they picked a game with online play, I still can't imagine what that means.

It was until they removed that option before launch. Some pre-release footage shows 4-player racing on four-lane tracks.

thecriticalgamer.com

Previous versions of Trials had this type of multiplayer, and it was fun. The developers said it was not used a lot so they scrapped it, but I hope they soon re-introduce it to Fusion, I think it would be fun. Even the single player's a blast, especially for twenty bucks.

2014-06-04 01:41:35 PM
Because having an online game lose connection during a commercial would be embarrassing.
