To be fair, if they told me that kindergarden had a graduation, and I was paying for it, I would want to punch something as well.

Why are we having "graduation" ceremonies for kindergarten? What the hell are they graduating from? Sandboxes and nap time? Should we give out trophies for potty training? Blue ribbons for successfully picking their noses? Maybe if we stopped turning every crotchfruit moment into some kind of celebration of mediocrity we wouldn't have to have dumbass parents mingling with other dumbass parents, all wishing they could be somewhere else and just itching to smack somebody because of it.

Haven't school administrators learned yet not to put too many parents together in the same setting? That many parents in one room increases the odds that you'll have at least one belligerent drunk in the crowd to a near certainty. Has Little League and Chuck E. Cheese taught these administrators nothing?

The dumbest part of the whole affair was that kindergarten kids had a GRADUATION.

What did they accomplish that year -- successful playing, snacking and napping?

Parent #1:  "My kid fingerpaints better than yours does!!"

Parent #2:  "Oh, yeah?  Shut up!!"

*punching ensues*

I have noticed the "graduation from everything" trend more since having kids. At least none of the ones I have been to involved toddler-sized cap-and-gown, which I have seen in other places.

The most annoying thing I have found is when about 10 or 15 relatives in the crowd decide to video the event using a 10" tablet.

They've been "graduating" from kindergarten since the 80's. This is not a new trend.

I drive special needs children to this school daily during the school year. If you saw the daily shenanigans in the parking lot at dropoff and pickup times with rude/ignorant/asshole parents behind the wheel, this story would not surprise you at all.

From outward appearances, this is a modern, very well kept school. They should offer parenting classes for the adults though.

While I agree with you in essence (that we give out awards for some crap reasons) this is not one of those times.

Moving from Kindergarten to real school is a big deal. Sure they didnt have to really do squat (there are the basics that should have already been taught at home, but we know that doesnt always happen) but I think it helps to build some confidence and a sense of accomplishment.

For instance, when you are potty training your kid, almost every child rearing book in the world says you should make a huge deal out of it the first few times. Cheering, calling the grandparents, hell everything short of a framed 8X10 in the kitchen. All that for taking a crap.

To keep it short, I get this one. I would not get one for 1st grade, 2nd and so on.
