Worst part about owning a motorcycle: the bug-and-spider inspection before a ride. Worse than finding a spider's nest is putting your crotch there moments after making yourself only reasonably sure that you got them all out.

Looks like a hunstman spider. They're mostly harmless. People need to stop being pussies about spiders. Most of them can't hurt you in any meaningful way and even if they can, no spider goes out of its way to bite you. Don't go out of your way to stick your finger in their faces and they'll give you a wide berth.

I've heard this story before. I'm pretty sure the spider was just trying to prevent this guy from driving off the edge of the washed-out bridge by making him think there was a giant spider in the heavy fog ahead of him.

Had 10-20 of these on my wall once, not as big, but quantity makes up for quality. Found another 30 right outside the door. After I killed the fark out of them, I found out that they snack on scorpions.

yeah, but if they can chew their way through your farking car, it's worth it to be a little freaked out. :-)

/That's obviously how that big motherfarker got in there, right through the engine block. Car will never run again.

I always liked jumping spiders and daddy long leg spiders. I'd rather deal with spiders than to deal with wasps.

It's called either a sun spider or a tailless scorpion. It's weird, scary motherfarker, but I think it's supposed to be closer to a spider than a scorpion. Doesn't have the claws or tail like a scorpion. I think it's actually freakier than either.

I have an agreement with spiders--I respect their presence and necessity in the ecosystem, and they stay out of my sight.

If they violate the agreement, "Irrational Darryl" takes over and the killiness starts.

You are so full of poo your posts show up in a brown font.

I don't go out hunting for spiders, but any sort of "wide berth" was off the table first time I was in bed and saw a spider lowering itself towards me from the ceiling.  It's the spiders who stick their fingers in my face.

Hell, I once left a black widow in the corner under my bed (Mabel was her name) because she was basically the angel of death to ants, and even I draw the line somewhere.

Funny, I have the same rules. I don't go looking for them and in some parts of the house I don't even hunt them down if I see them. But in the middle of the floor or in main living spaces it WILL go down if I spot them.

The vile product of an unholy union between a tarantula and a scorpion?

For me, they are OK until they actually crawl on my person. Unless they look like they could be a brown recluse.  Then I have to catch them and make sure they don't have a fiddle back.  If they don't, they get thrown outside.

Hate hate hate spiders. Just the way they move, or the way they stare at you... It's as if to say "I can take you down whenever I want." Beady eyes full of hate and death...

Kill it with fire and burn the car for good measure.

That's happened to me a bunch of times. I'll be laying there reading a book, something above keeps getting larger.

So I reach above the spider, and slowly move it's thread off to the side onto the bookcase.

"Happy hunting" I call softly in its general direction.

there was a comment like that in TFA, what I get from your statement is "Looks like..."  implying a level of uncertainty.

Exactly. The whole "they are more afraid of you than you are of them" is BS. I wouldn't be chillin on the ceiling right above something 1000 times my size! Let alone skitter across it when it is sleeping.
