(Chicago Trib)   Blackhawks' loss in game seven worst blow to Chicago sports since the Bartman incident. You know, provided the Cubs were perennial contenders with two recent World Series titles and 6 straight playoff appearances. But yeah, it's just like that   (articles.chicagotribune.com) divider line 82

Yeah, it's really not that bad. Chicago sports fans coast a LOOOONG time on wins. Hell, most fans think that the Bears won the Superbowl not too long ago.

I'm a Kings fan. I hate how Chicago eliminated the Kings last season. I hate how Chicago embarrassed the Kings at home the first game of the season after LA won the cup. I hate how Chicago dominates the Kings in the regular season. I hate the way Chicago does the anthem. I hate Toews' little rat face. I hate Kane's stupid mullet. I hate the song Chicago plays when they score a goal.

That being said, Chicago played a HELL of a series. They climbed out of a 3-1 cellar to force a game seven with three straight close games, punched holes in the Kings D and O, and if you play that game seven a hundred times, they definitely win more than half of those games. They're a hell of a team and they scare the everliving shiat out of me every time they play the Kings. They are a ridiculously talented group of players, and I can easily see them reaching the playoffs for quite a while. I noticed many of the fans who remained after the game were relatively respectful given the circumstances.

It was a really disappointing loss for that home crowd, but they've got a lot to look forward to and I hope to god someone else eliminates them before they play the Kings again.

David Haugh is an idiot if he thinks this is anywhere close to the worst thing since the Bartman game.

I am unfortunatly living in the Chicago area now, moving from the Detroit area.  As a long time rival, I have to give it to the Blackhawks for the hard played games. But I was always hoping the Kings would win.  Mainly because I think a coast to coast playoffs would be entertaining.  But also because I am a Wings fan and the "hawks" can blow me.

I can't stand their stupid song they play (da-da-da, da-da-da), it sounds like someone is trying to imitate a mentally challenged person like kids on the playground.  No to mention just that this area sucks.  The people here are all pretentious a-holes that think they are #1 and are entitled to everything.  I've been here for about a year and I'm sick of it alreay.  Good for the Kings and it sucks to be Chicago.

Didn't we go over this yesterday?

Yes, we did. Different story, same idea.

And by the way: the 2003 Cubs implosion was incredibly soul-crushing, unlike the 'Hawks this year where I said, "Oh well. It was a great series anyway. We'll be back next year." It taught me never to get that emotionally involved in sports ever again. So maybe the Cubs taught me to take the Blackhawks loss in stride.

And no, it wasn't Bartman's fault. It was Alou's fault for freaking out over a stupid foul ball. It was the team's fault for sucking wind the next game. It's why I drink heavily.

Walk up to any Bears fan and ask them, "Quick; what was the final score in Superbowl XX?" and he or she will know the answer immediately.  Then they'll lament the fact that Payton didn't score a TD in that game, and basically you're in a trap for the next ten minutes.

I'm just as guilty of this as any other Bears fan, but we keep good humor about it.  The Hawks loss is just the same.   This is a playoff team for a very long time in a very, very good division.  We got over it pretty quickly.  We only ask now that the Rangers destroy LA.

To be fair, subby, saying it was the worst thing since the Alex Gonzalez game doesn't imply that it was as bad as that game, just that nothing in the interim was that bad.

However, I think letting Peyton Manning win a Super Bowl and losing Derrick Rose in Round 1 of the playoffs were at least as disappointing as the Cubs losing three straight pennant-clinching games. Again. And I'm a big Cubs fan.

Also Detroit fan living in Chicago, miss the days of going to the UC for 10 bucks to see the Wings and having 90% of the arena be Detroit fans, which was what, 6-7 years ago? Now you have to sell a kidney to buy a ticket to that matchup. Damn bandwagoners (and no, don't bemoan to me the Dollar Bill story, I've heard it ad nauseum). More recently, I'd say the Bears losing the division in week 17 this year versus Green Bay was more soul crushing than the Blackhaws loss.  I mean, really.  You're not going to cover a guy 30 yards downfield who can only run a ''go'' route?  In the last seconds of the game?  Where, if you stop them, a 47 yard field goal from a shaky kicker on a crummy playing surface is the only thing that can beat you?  THAT was tough to swallow.

Losing a hard fought game 7 OT game after you've won 2 Cups in 4 years is nothing.  This article was written by a tool.

THIS. Yeah, an OT loss in a Game 7 conference final is kind of a gut punch, but better the Kings, than, let's say, the Canucks. This was one of the most evenly-matched series I've seen. Certainly not like the Bruins' drubbing of the Penguins last year.

I'll even root for the Kings in the SCF. I'm hoping it goes 7 games, though, just for the LOL factor of a full 28 games to the Cup.

Comparing this to the Bartman fiasco? Yeah, right.

Speaking of being sensitive, you're the one that came out of nowhere to complain about Hawks fans showing up to their own arena. I think that if green Kane jersey guy was wearing a Datsyuk jersey but had the same shiatty personality you'd be best friends with him.

Back to the original topic rather than flinging all this shiat, this loss definitely sucked but isn't even close to the worst blow since 2003. Bears letting the Packers into the playoffs and losing to them in the NFC Championship game was probably worse. Maybe if the Hawks hadn't won those 2 cups this would be as bad, but honestly even throughout the Minnesota series they looked outplayed more often than not. It just wasn't their year.

No, I'm pretty sure Hawk predated Bartman.

2014-06-03 04:51:13 PM
I became a Cubs fan when I met my husband in '97, who is a third generation Chicagoan (city proper). We had Cubs season tickets from 1999 until 2008.

We were 13 rows directly behind Bartman. We went to Game 7. To say fans were utterly crushed isn't nearly enough. It was enough for my husband to not renew his tickets and he hasn't been to Wrigley since.

During those years, he refused to purchase Blackhawks tickets (Old Man Wirtz) and we supported the Wolves. OMW died, Cubs destroyed his soul, so it was a great time to be a Blackhawks fan again.

'09 to present has been wonderful, and I have no reason to believe Chicago won't be in the playoffs for the next few years. Game 7 OT losses are sad, but was it as devestating as the '08 Cubs? Hardly.

Nice comment.  When the Hawks went down 2-0 against the blues, despite the blues having a better regular season than the Kings, I wasn't worried nearly as much as I was when they were 3-1 against the Kings.  I figured it was too much to overcome considering how well the Kings have played playoff hockey this year, last, and the year they won the cup (from the 8th seed iirc).  I think a lot of people here in Chicago, myself included, think that whoever won this series would win the cup regardless of who the east put up.  With an ex-Hawk as your coach and after that series I think a lot of hawks fans are quietly looking at you guys to take it.

Cheers, good luck.

p the boiler: beal99: I am a Sox fan who could care less.
/I know you don't care
//will be at the Cubs game tonight

of course.

got free tickets and live within 15 minutes of wrigley and have a 13 year old son I am taking - seems logical, I can still like baseball, be a sox fan and not really care about the cubs.

As a Sox fan I do the same thing several times a year, and I see no problem with it. However I just moved to the West Loop from Lincoln Park so now it's pretty much and even trip for me to get the Cell as it is to Wrigley.
