I'm waiting for a real  D&D movie. That movie from 2000 was horrible and had no atmosphere. Also putting Jeremy Irons in a movie with Marlon Way is like getting a blow job from a girl who uses all teeth.

I think that the real problem is that D&D, in and of itself, is kind of generic. The best movie adaptations exalt the stories that they are based on, but D&D isn't a story, it's a setting and system of rules for making stories. As a consequence it's hard to make a D&D film that isn't just pureed fantasy tropes.

the second one didn't completely suck, and was true to the game (more or less).

I've often wished some of my favorite series would be made in to movies but I've come to believe there is almost no way I would be satisfied with the results, so maybe its for the best.

Basically: 'blah blah blah, isolated incident. Stop oppressing us. censorship. and oh yeah, almost forgot, sorry about the gril that got stabbed. Or something.'

Don't get me wrong, I'm not calling for them to be shut down or censored or anything like that. Just the entire statement came of as an extremely douchebaggy CYA post that almost forgot to mention how horrible this event was.

That would be fun, but I feel like everyone would have their own head-canon about how the characters are supposed to look in real life and would get pissy about casting choices.

So they stabbed this shiat out of their little friend trying to summon a monster that I helped some Goons create in a Something Awful thread almost a decade ago?

They should have read our source material.  Slendy does not accept sacrifices from children.  He CREATES sacrifices out of children.  ALL CHILDREN.

So, as far as the actual article goes ...

What the hell is the point of handling children differently than adults in the legal system if they are going to charge these two 12 year olds as adults? It is not like their actions indicated that they are more mature than the average tween. In fact, one could argue the opposite. I'm not saying that they are not farked up, just that I would think they are exactly who the juvenile distinction is meant for.

Is sure seems like the severity of a crime is far more important than age in determining how to charge defendants.

When my brother was digging around in a bunch of our old stuff he found a bunch of the D&D choose your own adventure books. It was cool to see them again.

The original Mazes and Monsters was hilarious because it was in earnest. It was set in motion by people who were actually afraid that D&D was everywhere and would sucker your poor innocent kids into death-cult LARPs, delusions, and the NYC sewers. Inherent lulz right there, just like Reefer Madness.

The new one could be fun. It could be this-is-retarded-but-we're-having-a-blast-making-it entertaining like Sharknado, perhaps. Guess we'll see, though.

How did this wind up in the "geek" tab? Did a mod think this actually involved "Mazes and Monsters"?

And so... we played the game again... for one last time. It didn't matter that there were no maps... or dice... or monsters. Pardue saw the monsters. We did not. We saw nothing but the death of hope. And the loss of our friend. And so we played the game until the sun began to set... and all the monsters were dead

Cool.  Mostly playing D&D 3.5 edition now, but have some high-school aged kids who really want to try CoC.  Might have to unpack that well-taped box in the attic.

/Had to explain to my wife why those books needed to be kept from our 7 and 9 year old kids.
