Point of order.

Oldest surviving pair of pants.

The existence of said pants implies precursors...

Half as old as the earth itself!

Other grave goods include tack for horses. This is expected because pants were developed for horseback riding. Societies that didn't have horse cultures didn't wear pants.

Since we don't ride horses anymore we should theoretically be reverting back to togas, loincloths, robes, or something.

Of all the things white people have introduced to the Chinese, history may well look upon pants as the most evil. An ancient, pernicious affront to the comfort of one's junk.

Pants!  Pants!  Sing the praises of pants!

Nothing better shows my taste
Than what I wear below my waist.

Pants!

I'd wear a toga that had cargo pockets.

A utilikilt comes pretty close with a nice loose t-shirt.

Pants on the ground
Pants on the ground
Lookin' like a fool with yo pants on the ground
With yo gold in yo mouth
Hat turned sideways, pants hit the ground
Call yourself a cool cat, lookin like a fool
Walkin' downtown with your pants on the ground
Get it up, hey, get your pants off the ground
Walkin', talkin' with your pants on the ground
Get it up, hey, get your pants on the ground
Lookin' like a fool with your pants on the ground
Gold in your mouth
Hat turned sideways
Call yourself a cool cat, yeah, lookin' like a fool
Walkin', talkin' with your pants on the ground
Boom, boom, pants on the ground
Lookin' like a fool with your pants on the ground
With your gold in your mouth
Hat turned sideways, pants hit the ground
Call yourself a cool cat

Are you implying that the old joke is wrong..... that they did, in fact, bury the survivor pants after the pants crash???

And from Ogden Nash..

Bedeck your lower in pants,
Yours are the limbs my Sweeting.
You look divine as you advance,
Have you seen yourself retreating?

Romans and even Ancient Egyptians rode horses. So did Indians. Without trousers for their legs.

Romans had trousers. They adopted them, along with much of the rest of their cavalry skills, from "barbarians."

And the Ancient Egyptian horse culture centered around chariots, which didn't require pants.

They rode long before they had trousers. The AE mainly used chariots, but there are extant images & statues of riders, too.

This means there's a 3,000 year old guy out there with no pants on.

One of the men had been buried with a decorated leather bridle
and a wooden bit, a battle ax, and a leather bracer for arm protection.
The other man was accompanied by a whip, a decorated horse tail,
a bow sheath, and a bow.

Looks like they found the oldest set of S&M accessories as well.

The Romans were not the best of horsemen.
