I'm an Android plebe so the Apple humor is lost on me.

OSX, now with Apple's version of Vista's transparency, Windows 8's "flat" icons & mail app, Skype & syncing Onedrive!

Truly magical.

But it's PRETTY. That's the important thing.

Bizarre headline not withstanding, it looks like there are some nice features for folks in the Apple ecosystem. Messaging and phone calls routed through the computer is a nice touch.

And they are FINALLY putting quick replies in iOS. That was missing for way too long.

ChangeWave measured it at 97%.
Customer satisfaction is off the charts

Apple charts stop at 96.9?

A new feature that takes it to the next level: Handoff

They were going to call it Handjob, as a memorial to Steve, but they figured it was a better summary of this entire show.

The iWatch is a complete rip-off of the Moto 360. They even stole the 360's round face!!!

How are those Apple widgets doing? Oh, you don't have any.

2014-06-02 02:04:30 PM
I see they still can't figure out how to make a keyboard with lowercase letters on it.

I never got the fascination with widgets. Besides just sucking battery power.

/HTC One. No widgets.

Doesn't look much different than the smartwatches and activity trackers already out there, but I think they'll make a killing with the $99 price point

Widgets? You mean those tiny apps on the Dashboard, available since OS 10.4 came out in 2005?

I think he's talking about iOS, not OS X

It's all pretty much point release at this point. Can they just do their "new cool thing" first rather than me having to sit through all this tedious crap?

I like this idea of adding an "ask" feature, that's kinda neat.

//When a device is in kids mode and your kid wants to make a purchase, it prompts the parents device for approval.  Now given, that could get Really annoying if you have annoying kids.

A couple years ago there were rumors that Apple was going to release an iWatch.
Samsung hurried one to the market, hoping to beat them to the punch with The Next Big Thing.
It flopped.

I feel like that everything they've announced about iCloud Drive sounds almost exactly like Google Drive and Google+, right down to the document syncing and picture syncing.

I have a friend that loves that damn thing.  Not sure if it's the same one you're referring to or not, but it works pretty good with the Note 3 from what I've seen.

iOS just added 3rd party keyboards.... =)

Apparently, you can also install 3rd party keyboards in iOS. Good, but they are severely late to the party.

they just opened up touch ID to other apps. thumbprints stolen in 3...2...1...

Yeah.  Care to show me an Apple release that says it's at a $99 price point?  Or an official Apple release showing the product?  I can't find anything but speculation.

FlashHarry: they just opened up touch ID to other apps. thumbprints stolen in 3...2...1...

They explicitly said that apps won't have access to the data itself. An app can basically call up TouchID and TouchID gives the app a yes or no.

Apple is switching away form Objective C

I feel like the Swift language is being introduced primarily to make it more difficult for developers to port to other platforms like Android.

I'm not a watch kinda guy. They never seem to lay on my wrist right. That and I'm hard on stuff.

iDon't want one.

Has Apple ever sold ANYTHING for under $100 besides an iPod Shuffle? What a piece of crap that was. I'll keep my MacBook until it freaking dies, but iWont buy iAnything.

same runtime I think.

Not sure what this is about - most people use stuff like Xamarin or Unity because they can use a single code base.

Objective-C is a miserable programming system. While I look forward to using something easier, I am sad that I wasted so much time learning its particulars.

What, you mean all those sites that said there was going to be an iWatch or Apple TV or iDildo were making shiat up for clicks?

This is pretty awesome.  No more typing passwords.  Well, except for banks.  Their security bureaucracies will take at least 2 years to rubber stamp approval of adding it to their apps.

There are no home screen widgets in iOS 8. The widgets are for notification center only.

This is the best news from the presentation, as far as I'm concerned.  Access to third-party keyboards was the biggest reason I went with Android instead of iOS when I switched from BlackBerry.

Hell, they could go with C# for all I care. Objective-C is different enough syntactically from other languages that it trips me up whenever I try going back to it. I guess on the upside, it is different enough that I don't try calling a function from another language.
