Using Mao's words to contradict Mao ideology seems to be something that happens more oft than not.

Its nothing new. People see what they want to see. Cruz sees Reagan as the pinnacle of conservatism even though he was more Neo-Liberal than anything else

Oh snap!

Reagan doubled the self-employment tax.  That's not something a liberal would do.

Cruz said Saturday: "In Texas, we define gun control real simple. That'shiattin' what you aim at."

That's an awful lot of derp for just one hurrr.

...and some people want this Canadian clown to be President.

I pointed out that Reagan wouldn't be accepted by the tea party if he ran for office today. The tea party idiot I was mentioning this to responded with derp.

Actually Ted, Texas doesn't allow open carry of pistols. It's kind of why there's been open carry of long gun demonstrations in your state lately.

Meanwhile, my hippie-liberal state of Oregon allows pistol open carry, as long as you're outside Multnomah County (Portland).

I'd be okay with open carry, so long as it's holstered and can't easily be removed from the owner.  Parading around like you're the National Guard on 9/12/01 isn't the way to go about securing your freedumbs.

In PA you can open carry, even in downtown Philadelphia.  Although the Philly PD takes a dim view of citizens exercising these rights.

I was telling someone else last week that if we are going to allow open carry in Texas, I think everyone should be required to to port arms their weapon. You can't use a sling. It'll be like Basic training.

That'll put a stop to people open carrying pretty quickly.

And don't get me started on what these guys would do if some dark-hued middle-eastern rabbi came to them preaching about treating others, especially the lowest among us, equally and respectfully... and that the wealthiest among us will have an incredibly difficult time seeing Heaven upon their deaths.

Compared to the GOP now, nearly every politician before 2009 is a dirty lib.

2014-06-02 01:24:45 PM
Regan did compromise on taxes.

His amnesty plan was supposed to end the brown menace once and for all, but we see how that turned out.

The restriction on fully automatic weapons was shameful.

When is Ted Cruz going back to the place of his birth, Calgary, Canada. The stampede is coming up and they serve grilled nuts that Cruz  seems to have fondness to shove in his mouth. Reagan at least tried to govern not just obstruct and destroy.

2014-06-02 01:25:57 PM
Reagan has been out of office for 25 years and dead for 10 years. Can we stop pretending we can read his political thoughts? Saying "Reagan would have aligned himself with me on......" makes you sound like a disingenuous sack of shiat. No one is falling for that rhetoric.
/I wish Cruz would move the fark back to Canada already

And thus the purity wars began.  Old heroes were sacrificed on the alter of insufficient purity to the cause.  The charge of liberal or not conservative was tossed about freely and caught up old foes and the innocent alike.  Even those who were single mindedly dedicated could be accuse and thus convicted if it served anothers purpose.

It seems ideologies have a life cycle and not very long after they start purges begin for reasons not always tied to the ideology.

I think Republicans are just going to start quoting 80s action movies and pretending that it's their own invention.  I expect Ted Cruz to start saying things like "crime's the disease... and I'm the cure" or "remember how I said I'd kill you last Osama... I lied."

Exactly.

I remember when St. Reagan was first introduced to the Soviet Premiere and in view of the entire world, heroically refused to shake that commie's hand.

I remember when the Democratic House sent him a couple of minor tax increase bills and St. Reagan vetoed each and every one with a stream of Budweiser-fueled piss.

I remember when terrorists killed 220 Marines in Lebanon and St. Reagan joined the B-52's flight crew and personally pushed the button that dropped the nuke on their stone-aged asses.

I remember when Congress brought up the Brady Bill after he left office and how St. Reagan came out of retirement, grabbed his shiat-kicking boots, and told all them sumbiatches in Congress that it'd be a cold day in hell before he let anyone attack the Second Amendment.

God Bless that man.

Marcus Aurelius: Reagan doubled the self-employment tax.  That's not something a liberal would do.

He also ended the interest deduction for all kinds of interest (credit cards, car loans, consumer loans, student loans, etc.) except for home mortgage interest.  If you're gonna do a tax increase, that's about the most right-wing (i.e., help the rich and fark the poor) way to do it.

Objects of GOP worship become much more conservative after their deaths.

Just like Jesus.  Before crucifixion, it was all Sermon On The Mount this, turn the other cheek that, nobody can worship both God and Mammon, Prince of Peace and all kinds of herpa-derp.   Here we are 2000 years later, and Jesus is all about hating sinners, smiting before thou art smitten, and crapping on widows and orphans.

I guess it works like Mormon posthumous baptism.

Bush lost the popular vote in 2000, so they're only 1-for-the-last-6 in convincing the majority of people to vote for their guy. I'd call that a losing streak.
