Much like the ESPYs, the very concept of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is pretty silly.  I suppose it makes for an interesting concert event every year, but that's about it.

Music genres evolve.

That being say, calling someone a racist for holding an opinion that Rock should have instruments and singing is nonsense.

When "Walk This Way" came out Run DMC did a whole hell of a lot more for the career of Aerosmith than Aerosmith was doing at the time.

The HOF has been admitting vaguely defined "pre-rock influences" and "rock influenced" groups since they opened.  It's basically the Popular Music HOF

Inductees include Ray Charles, Billie Holliday, Louis Armstrong, Bob Marley, Isaac Hayes, and Michael Jackson.  Kind of silly to get upset about it now, but it does punch a huge hole in the "racism" accusation.

He's not incorrect, from that perspective.

Rappers aren't musicians as they play no instruments. They are not singers as they do not sing. At best, you can call them public performers. I don't even like using the term 'entertainer', as I can hear the ghost of Sammy Davis Jr preparing to kick my ass if I did.

You can maybe get away with calling them writers, if they somehow manage to write their own lyrics. But that's about it.

Changing a flat tire does not make you a mechanic.

Well it did take them up to last year to induct Rush, which should have been done decades ago. So they've been known to drag ass when it comes to induct actual rock bands.

Also not to mention Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Scorpions among many others are still not in. You don't have to like all or any of them. But they have tremendous fan bases, have had huge hits that are enjoyed by millions and most importantly, they actually  are farking rock and roll bands.

Not saying they all should be in (though I think they should) but they should at very least all have been in long before the first rapper was ever even nominated.

You clearly don't know anything about rap or hip-hop, then.  I admit that a good chunk of it is crap, but not all of it is.  They're not making music anymore sadly, but the Beastie Boys wrote their own music and played their own instruments.  They were a hardcore punk band before making the transition to rap.  They were definitely musicians, definitely artists, and most definitely entertainers.  I hope Adam H. and Mike D. decide to get back in the studio in a few years' time, because they're too good not to, IMO.

I disagree with PS opinion, but that doesn't make him racist.  20 years ago, I would have agreed with him, not so much anymore. That genre made the industry a lot of money, sold a lot of units. It should be honored.
